Fighters can only move to their left and there will be liberal use of flags.

I don't understand the fascination they have with doing a huge venue like this or cowboy stadium. They can't consistently sell out relatively small venues. A lot of their event attendance is inflated with comp tickets. At the event it's easier to see what's going on in the cage by watching it on the available screens and I have a perfectly available 1 at home. I have no interest sitting a 1/4 mile from the cage.

Money, money, money.
Right off the top, I don't think comparing casino shows with stadium is the best indicator. I think 129 was the first stadium show and that did sell out. It set both attendance and gate records, making a bucket-load for the UFC.
I have no idea as to the show's logistics and big screen capacity, but there is the atmosphere and energy that is hard to duplicate in a smaller place.
Not saying it's gonna work, but it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

129 was the first UFC in Ontario. It was highly advertised and featured GSP, Machida,Couture. Places like Canada or Australia where the fans are starving for live shows maybe but I just don't see it in the US.
Definitely interesting to see how it will play out though.

They should work it into a Race weekend and let some of the race fans that haven't really been exposed to the UFC get a chance to be part of the festivities.
Edit: Didn't read the story so I'm not sure if my post was one of the ideas. If so, disregard.

That would be a good idea if not for the fact that NASCAR usually takes up the whole weekend when they race at a venue. If they put together a Great Card, attendance shouldn't be a problem. I really thought Cowboy Stadium would be the first attempt at breaking attendance records. Probably cheaper and easier to secure the Speedway.

I think you'd be surprised at the advertising budget for 129. It wasn't notably higher. With the attendance history of the 4 events at the Bell Centre in Montreal (6 hour drive away), the UFC knew they didn't have to put much more into it. Ratner was quoted as saying that Toronto was their best market in terms of ppv buys and ppv viewers on a per capita basis. That was almost a year before UFC 129.
Plus they had to wait for the Ontario govt to green light it.
I think it showed that stadiums could work and work well. Apparently the fan experience was amazing.
But you're right in that it won't necessarily work in the US. At least Vegas, anyway. Too much competition from other attractions and activities. I think Dallas would work - enough crazy Texans and the sheer spectacle of it would do it, I think.

But they can build a stage in the infields in a matter of minutes so after nation-wide before sprint cup would be a great way to fill the place. Race fans love a good fight, ratings and attendence are always higher when two drivers are at wach others throats. My father was a race track promoter and for years I tried to get them to have a mma fight after the races but there were major liabilities in the insurance that kept them from ever really considering it as an option.
They could sell tickets for infield seating and comp the regular grand stand seats with the city of people that show up on race week; and with their partnership on FOX could really begin moving in to the older demographic that NASCAR currently operates with on FOX. Because MMA fans are getting older and the UFC will have to grow to reflect there fanbase.

Hey, I'm all for it, I'm really surprised Dallas hasn't already happened, as far as incorporating the races and MMA? I think you're right, a match made in heaven and I don't see why you wouldn't give it a shot if you're the UFC, or NASCAR really, seems like both could benefit from this joint venture

Anybody consider the heat in Vegas from June-October? Hotter than hell.

True. For the early fights it may be brutal, but once the sun is down, the heat really doeant feel bad even if the temperature says otherwise.

I think that may be relative though. I have been deployed to the middle east numerous times and when the high for the day is 125 degrees and then drops to 95, it feels good because of the 3 degree drop from mid-day to night. When in reality it's pretty damn hot.

Mm maybe. I honestly dont think 95 at night was bad. No sun to bake you and next to zero humidity so youre not sweating like crazy. Outdoor Concerts, playing bball etc all felt fine and im from a colder climate. Maybe im just weird. Hah
