Granted I am a relatively new poster but I can't help but notice the hate K1 gets. People have alerted me to the fact that others keep bringing it up like it 'means something'. Of course it f**king means something. It doesn't mean you will succeed, but it means you have something else on your resume/CV. It's no worse than saying *insert name here* has a black belt in BJJ. They are all martial arts and are all part of MMA. Does BJJ or wrestling get as much hate on this forum too? Only ask because I haven't seen it.

I've seen MMA guys get absolutely lit up and sparked out in K1 but at least they went in there! They get my respect for that. Same with the K1 guys in MMA, if they are at such a 'disadvantage' by having a 'meaningless' thing on their cv/resume, should we not show them some respect?

Simply saying someone is a "K-1 level" striker means nothing. K-1 is like any other fighting organisation in the world, they have some great fighters but they also have some pretty bad ones.

The point is, it's like saying Paulo Thiago is a black belt in BJJ. It's only stated as a reference, nothing else.
Does having a black belt in BJJ mean this guy can't be subbed by a 'K1 level striker'? No it does not
That's the beauty of MMA
Also, K1 is not an organisation, it's a variation of different styles.
The organisations are the likes of Superkombat and Glory

Uh, K-1 is a promotion. Well known for their financial troubles in the past few years.
Regarding BJJ, the belt system generally shows what level someone is at. Obviously there are varieties of skill in each belt class, but on the whole black belts are going to be better than purple belts. Whereas saying someone is "K-1" level doesn't say anything about their actual ability, since there have been some awful kickboxers in K1 before. Instead of simply saying someone fought in K1, they should actually look at a fighters skills and judge them on that.

I'm not saying don't judge someone on their ability, that's what I always do. Someone on this forum likened Mark Hunt to Roy Nelson FFS. Hunt has been fighting K1 since I've been watching in 2004.(Does that mean he's any good? No it just means he's more experienced in K1 than Nelson) That's like saying Hunt is as good on the ground as Nelson just because he looks similar. The BJJ belt system is probably the most flawed of the lot, depending who you get your belt off. People always say oh he got his belt off this instructor, but he got his belt off this instructor. It shouldn't matter.
K1 is the rule set the fighters fight under. Glory, Superkombat and It's Showtime are all K1 based promotions.
What gets me is that the people who seem to be hating on K1 don't know anything about it or don't even watch it.

I agree with you when it comes to the Hunt/Nelson comparison. Nelson has literally nothing but a powerful overhand right, whereas Hunt has shown some great striking in the UFC, especially his counter striking against Kongo.
Regarding BJJ< while there are some questionable black belts, on the whole the system is alright.

Anyone who can compete in or win K-1 tournaments is a dangerous striker. It doesn't mean they will be the best striker in every MMA match but it's notable. Reem didn't get KO'd by Bigfoot because Bigfoot is a better striker. He got KO'd because Reem failed to keep his defense up and Bigfoot is a HW who hits hard. If Reem was fighting sharp like he did in the K-1 tournament he won, he would have put Bigfoot away.
K-1 success matters but it doesn't necessarily mean "Fighter A needs to drag it to the ground or he's getting KO'd by K-1 striker Fighter-B".

Just like if a fighter loses 1 time, he sucks. and everyone here says "I knew he would lose" AFTER the fight happens.

It was the change of camp for Overeem, Sedulous. Everyone knows he's a cocky pr*ck. Even Bas Rutten said GG used to tell him to always cover his chin with 1 hand and use his jab with the other. They knew about his suspect chin. He gets to do what he wants in blackzillians and that can't be good for him. he started throwing combos against Bigfoot and that's when he got caught. I want Belfort out of there too asap

It's a lot easier to not get hit in the face when u can use a boxing glove to cover up. K1 has shown to have very little outcome on MMA matches.

The gloves are very significant but you could also argue that BJJ has also shown to have 'very little outcome in MMA' on a lot of occasions.
The fact that maybe BJJ is a bit more prevalent in MMA is because there are a lot more guys who practice the art.
K1 is relatively new in comparison to other martial arts which are 100s or 1000s of years old.
Another thing people forget when they ignorantly dismiss K1 is that they are also dismissing karate

I don't think people are ignorantly dismissing K1, just pointing out that because someone has fought there does not mean their striking is going to translate well to MMA.

So what you are saying is, when people are losing an argument, they constantly state the obvious?
I have seen a lot of hate for K1 on this forum. Do people constantly point out what you said regards wrestling/bjj too?
I don't think they do
Hence the thread

The fact is that fighters coming from K1 generally have not done well. That doesn't mean people "hate" K1.

It is NOT hate for K-1, it is more like a reason to argue! Just because someone did good in K-1 does NOT mean they will be doing the same in MMA! Same goes with Boxing! Look at it like this, Bob Sapp has won a K-1 belt! enough said

I don't think anyone is going to refer to Bob Sapp's K1 background if they are losing an argument but I know what you mean.
The reason I started the thread is that people were dismissing Mark Hunt in the JDS fight because of his K1 background.
Which apparently means nothing. Bob Sapp and Mark Hunt are polar opposites.
Mark Hunt is a very good K1 (and MMA fighter), Bob Sapp is not.
Anyone who is not brain dead knows that
