I think this forum would benefit from an upgrade. The best bet would be vBulletin in my opinion.

Why do you say that?
If you're looking for features, the board software we use is just as feature-full as vB.
We just have most of the features disabled, intentionally, to reduce moderation headache. That would be the same if we were using vB.
We did our homework and evaluated vB vs phpBB, and phpBB won out. And we're on the current version, for the record

Ok, cool...
Then hovering over a thread title and having "new posts" display instead of the first 10 words of a thread is frustrating.
Having the thread title above each post is frustrating.
The search function has made me cringe.
I may be coming from old school days, but phpBB has caused more headaches than trolls. And we know we don't like trolls, right?

thanks for the feedback. phpBB has a lot of plugins, and a lot is customizable, i'll see if there's anything i can do.
I'm a moderator (and heavy user of) on the 17th largest vBulletin site on the internet, and personally i think the software is horrible compared to the simplicity of phpBB. To each his own

Not angering in the slightest, actually I always greatly appreciate the honest feedback. Keep it coming.

Don't want to make a new thread... but if posting private messages is an infraction, can you put that somewhere? if you have, lemme know where it is. thanks.

Yea that came up in a discussion I had with someone in a PM where they asked if posting PM's were "off-limits" I told them that I had not seen anywhere that it was forbidden, however, I do feel, along with others, that it would be in poor taste. IMO.

i've noticed posts will be deleted without explanation around here... but if someone posts a PM, are you just supposed to just use the alert button thing? i'd presume it's an immediate ban...

I don't think the mods care about that; it doesn't really make any difference to the site if someone posts a PM. It's just rude.

Posting a private message publicly is considered trolling on most boards due to it being a totally classless act and anyone that does it is a shithead IMO.

Most all posts that are deleted are because someone has reported them. The moderation team reads the boards but we just can't keep up with everything the same way that the much larger group of all the readers can.
So, if something needs moderation, please report it (using the inverted triangle), it will come to our attention quickly, and we'll deal with it ASAP.

good to know posting PMs is not an immediate ban. and if it's informative, it wouldnt be considered trolling, which shouldnt need the triangle, which means it doesnt need to be deleted.
got it.
