Ok, let us know some interesting stories you personally have heard about your city or state.
They must be ones you have heard and not pulled from the net, eg cat in the microwave etc.
So I was driving to work today and we have a very long steep hill which winds around a lot. I was going down the hill and I passed a memorial for someone who had died on that part of the road. It reminded me of a local story of how a guy was driving down the same hill and wanted to save petrol, so he turned his car off... Unfortunately for him the steering wheel locked, meaning he couldn't turn, and he drove off the road, crashed and died.
I sometimes put the car in neutral when going down the hill which always makes me think of this story.

A girl I dated in college in Victoria's house was on the highest hill in the city. The urban legend was that a building in the middle of 5 houses laid out in a pentagram/star alignment (one of which was her parent's place) was the site of a lot of Satanic rituals in the 70s/80s and was where some of the actions recanted in a book 'Michele Remembers' took place. You'd constantly see people going there and the place was never open while I was around there that year.
Used to be a bunch of pics on the web of the place I can no longer find.

When I was a kid, my dad told me about a boy he knew who had put his arm in the washing machine when it was on spin cycle and it tore his arm off. He finished his story with "and that's why washing machines stop when you lift the lid now"

^^ That one wouldn't surprise me.
I used to work at Auntie Anne's in the mall (it was right below the food court's escalators/elevator) and there was a girl who had her fingers ripped off in the down escalator.

^^ Reminds me of another story I heard about a kid in the city falling off a building to his death because his school backpack was too heavy. When he went to swing it on, he lost his balance and fell over the void.

You must fear and respect the escalator, I always jump the gap where the teeth come together.

Yeah man, it was pretty scary. It was about 2-3 hours before they get her hand out. I think she was 3 or 4. Was screaming the entire time.

The Zodiac killer killed someone where I used to go camping, and they found a shed in the sticks where I lived that had I think 5 corpses hanging from meathooks. They never found him, so the urban legend was that he was always around waiting to kill people. He himself I guess could be an urban legend since he was never actually caught.

When I was a teenager, my family had just moved from Brazil to Los Angeles. There was scary news reports about a guy breaking into homes and killing everyone at home.
It turns out it was Richard Ramirez, the Night Stalker.
I just found out he died earlier this month of cancer. Was that on the news?

The Tlinglit’s legends desrcibe the
Kushtaka
as being a
shape shifting
, half man, half otter trickster. It’s been known to lure fishermen and chlidren away from their loved ones with whistles and by mimicking calls of a baby crying. Some accounts of the story describe the Kushtaka as ripping the wayward soul to pieces , while other versions tell of the kushtaka changing the victim into a Kushtaka themselves. Local lore also mentions that no one should speak the kushtaka’s name, especially three times in a row. This is thought to evoke the beast. The creatures are said to live throughout southeast Alaska. The Kushtaka myth lives strong in
Southeast Alaska
. Next time your out on the water, remember this tale. You might not be alone out there in the vast Tongass National Forrest.

theres an old church close to my school which has a baptismal font near it that used to be used in satanic rituals. they say if you stand in it that you can feel demons or some sh!t coming towards you from the woods. so like the idiots we are me and some of my friends decided to go there one night and we could hear voices and footsteps coming towards us from the woods and the next morning my friend woke up with scratches on his back

there was an old burnt down house behind my house when i originally moved to where i live now (about 15 years ago when i was 3)
when i was about 12 my neighbours, 2 16-18 year old brothers told me about a hobo who lives under the house.
so me and 2 of my buddies went back there.
1 of my friends wussed out before we even got to the pine trees that surronded the house in a giant square.
the burnt down house looked like a entire floor being held up by debris on both sides, and there was a make-shift cavern there and some random blanket that stunk like dirty ***. You could not see anything under the floor, it was pitch black.
me and my buddy saw that and were like 'okay time to leave'
as we are leaving an old *** volkswagen beetle pulls in to the drive way and we start to take off faster.
the house was surronded on 4 sides by pine trees, and the driveway had pine trees along the side, so you can't see s--- until someone is right where you are.
it scared the s--- out of me at the time
not really an urban legend, but it freaked me out non-the-less.
now there is a wal-mart there

So this guy claims to have killed 49 people and he could apply for parole after 25 years? That's some shitty laws...

I went looking and couldn't find whether the sentences were to be served concurrently or consecutively. Either way, I doubt he'll get out.
