WAR

I am holding onto some hope that all this is stalling so UAE and Saudis can mobilize. Iran literally tried to have Trump assassinated, why is he losing his nerve here? For the first time, he has the endorsement of the establishment political class and here he is failing every rule Sun Tzu set for foreign diplomacy.
I think it's too late for the Saudis and UAE to make a difference at this point. What is there that they bring to the table that we cannot? The time for their participation to matter has sailed long ago. I don't see how we can improve our position at all anymore without a tidal wave of overwhelming force. And no one has the stomach for that anymore. We dithered, and we will pay the price.

As for your last sentence, I hold zero belief that Trump's mind has the depth to understand and apply the strategic principles you allude to. It's just not who he is. He has balls and charisma and luck, but he is not a bright man. I've said it a thousand times, but if he would just listen to advisors, he would be wildly successful.

Because my strong belief is that at the top levels of the IRGC, they are not religious fundamentalists. I think that after our attacks decimated their leadership and killed the Supreme Leader, the IRGC is now the strongest power in Iran. They are using the maimed semi-corpse (if he's even alive anymore) of Khomeini as a symbolic figurehead to give their power a thin veneer of legitimacy. I don't believe that the IRGC is willing to ride this cart over the cliff, I believe they have a desired endgame in mind and will be pursuing that while making this as painful for Trump as possible. They are desiring Democratic victories in the primaries and will be aiming to make this administration look as bad as possible.
The IRGC top brass also know they have no future in the country if they lose their status of authority. Basij goons and local clerics have been assassinated by the public leading up to the war. Projecting invincibility is life and death for them.

Agreed. I believe they are driven entirely by the desire to maintain their power, which is their life at this point. That's why they will never end this on Trump's terms, even if they have to eat sawdust for months.

Word is Iran's President just quit. Probably a smart lift choice, lol.

Obviously trump called Bibi and got the message to Hezbollah that we won't strike Beirut in exchange for them not to shoot at civilians (which they still do)

The ground military operation in southern Lebanon has not been limited by this "ceasefire" however

Iran is holding him by the balls, unbelievable

Yes, instead of "get rid of your enriched uranium, long range ballistic missiles and proxies!" it's become "could you please just open the strait of hornuz? please?"

"You're fucking crazy": Trump fumes at Netanyahu in call on Lebanon

President Trump lashed out at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel's escalation in Lebanon in an expletive-laden call on Monday, two U.S. officials and a third source briefed on the call told Axios.

Why it matters: Earlier on Monday, Iran threatened to abandon the negotiations with the U.S. over Israel's actions in Lebanon. On the call, Trump called Netanyahu "crazy" and accused him of ingratitude, according to two of the sources. He also put the brakes on Israel's plan to strike Beirut.

One huge missed opportunity back in Jan when those people were in the streets. Didn't he say we're coming or elude to that in some way?
