It's extremely expensive to dismantle in a dry dock. I would speculate that not only were the components too expensive to extract, but that they were probably obsolete. The US Navy is rapidly modernizing and instituting much new technology. It's the same reason you can't disassemble a a '70s era car and build it into a 2026 model.

Looking up the ship shows it was an amphibious assault ship commissioned in 1978.

What the fuck was even the point of all of this? They get to keep their uranium, their nuclear program will get restarted, and they are closing in on control of a VITAL international passageway. A passageway that is essential to our national security. Oh yeah, and we are giving them hundreds of billions for dollars, just like Obama did.
