WAR

Wait until they learn that Arabs and Persians are different peoples! I had that conversation with some moron once, it was hilarious.
Oh, they pivoted to "Oh my God, our bases in that region are just destroyed, absolutely devastated, our influence in the region will never be the same."

And again I'm like "Um, I've seen the pictures too, and anything outside of that expensive plane I've seen that's been hit has been fairly minor in the grand scheme. Looks to me a lot more like they tracked the incoming and made the tactical decision not to intercept because the damage from a strike would cost less to repair than a missile to launch and intercept "

Crickets and bug eyes again.

It's wild how certain publications/sources/algo's can shape and distort peoples perception of reality.

Back during BLM, and then COVID, my brother was living in the Netherlands. His main source of US news was the New York Times. I swear, for 4 years, just about every time we'd talk he would be like, "I saw the news, is everyone okay over there?" and I'd always say, "what are you talking about? Everything is fine here.. well, not EVERYTHING, but things are the way they always have been" and he'd bring up some hyperbolic/unhinged story he read about how either Chicago or America were on the brink of collapse, or, had fallen and there was all out war occurring on the streets.

I would always tell him, "dude, you really need to stop reading the New York Times".

X these days is a hundred times worse. I made the mistake of hopping on there 6-8 weeks ago or so and it was non-stop "Tel Aviv is no more, wiped out in an Iranian missile barrage!" with ridiculous AI videos of Tel Aviv on fire and US aircraft carriers on fire and Trump has dementia, blah blah blah. If I tweaked the keywords I could immediately change it and get non-stop whatever I wanted. Trump is amazing, America is near a Golden Age, Iran is decimated. You could also shift it to Israel/Palestine.... IDF is committing genocide? You got it! Hamas are dressing up as IDF soldiers and throwing women and children in front of firing squads to make Israel, the ultimate good guys, look evil? Sure thing boss!

Whatever side of any issue you want to believe is right can be right, if you just type in the appropriate keyword and apportion your likes in a manner that causes more of what you're looking to believe is true to be spoon fed to you.

you're the perfect guy to deliver this. no one's gonna argue with the guy that's been there and walked the walk.

Ask them what makes you care about your bases in the region all of a sudden

You'd think that... but you underestimate the Dunning-Kruger that these people have.

If they saw it on X and it was 'confirmed' on Facebook, it's true.

Like when my sister-in-law called me about 4 years ago and frantically said, "did you see the news? Nancy Pelosi was perp walked out of Congress in handcuffs!"

I did a 1 second Lougle query and there was nothing to support it and I was like, "uh... why is no one covering this?"

Her response, "I saw it on X and then I doubled checked The Gateway Pundit, it's legit!"

I was like, "Kim, you realize this would be MAJOR news... everyone would be covering it if it was true"

Her response: "I'm sure the other stations will pick it up soon"

I could only facepalm.

The best part is when you circle back with them a week later and they are like, "I did my research, it's not my fault that it ended up being completely fake"

I almost never speak up and just let them talk but this stuff I just had too.

One or two times they've asked something like "With your experience, what do you think about ..."

And I'll just answer: "All respect, but I really don't talk about war with Muggles. Kinda just one of those things where you'll never be able to fully understand my side and I'll never understand yours. But man, Trump sure sucks huh?!" That usually gets em spun off in a different direction.

I make the mistake of mixing up who I am with who most everyone else is. I'm a big believer in specialists. Ya there's jacks of all trades out there but I generally tend to yield to the opinions of experienced specialists. They been down in the weeds and have intimate knowledge of their specialty or former specialties. Bonecrete knows his shit and my bullshit alarm has never gone off when talking to him about this subject.

Must be a coincidence

Investigation into oil market trades: Billions made just minutes before Trump Iran announcements

US investigates traders who made $2.6 billion in bets that oil prices would fall, ABC reports; One trade made 15 minutes before Trump called off bombing Iranian power plants, and another 15 minutes before he extended the ceasefire

Assyrians and Persians are different people too (Beneil told me to say that).

Mysterious explosions hit Strait of Hormuz, Iran hints UAE responsible: 'Will pay for the action'

Explosions heard near port of Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island in the Strait; Iran reports aircraft destroyed and dock at port damaged in 'exchange of fire'; Israel denies any connection to the incident

Fox News reports: US military struck Hormuz and Bandar Abbas

The United States military is the one that struck the port of Qeshm in Hormuz and Bandar Abbas. This was reported by Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin, citing a senior American official. According to her, this does not constitute a renewal of the war.

I've come to learn that there is a big difference between people who work in fields that deal in reality (soldier in active combat, that's a very reality based field), and those that deal in theory.

Put it this way... you can't fake being a master carpenter. If someone is a master carpenter and has the resume of actively working as one for decades, I will defer to them all the time on carpentry based questions. A master carpenter either know how to install crown molding properly, or they don't. You're not going to be able to build a 20+ long year career talking your way out of completely fucking up custom cabinetry jobs by telling the client some buzzwords.

You can, to some extent, fake being a master economist. It's a very theoretical field and even people who are wrong most of the time can be considered experts. If you completely fuck up an economic forecast you can generally point to some aspect as being 'larger than anticipated' and people will shrug their shoulders rather than take you to task the way they would if you fucked up their crown molding.

Reports of explosions also in Abu Dhabi, UAE

The Saberin News agency, associated with pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, reported sounds of explosions in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The Iranian news agency Tasnim cited 'informed sources' claiming that Tehran 'attacked three American destroyers using missiles and suicide drones.'
