They apparently didn't train to fight a champion striker, 30 second pep talk couldn't have changed anything.
It's beautiful watching how bad on the ground Holm was after the Tate fight.
Rousey, a submission artist, tried to stand with a world class striker who had zero ground game. lol.

Ronda had Holm in an arm bar in the middle of the octagon that she escaped from. Rousey also had Holm pressed against the cage in the clinch (Rousey's strongest position) and Holm fought out of it. Holm has a ground game.
Tate and Rousey have fundamentally different grappling styles, thus Holly's clinch experience from her kick boxing days served her well against the cage and you can bet your *** Jackson was drilling arm-bar escapes every day leading up that fight. Let also, not forget how much trouble Tate had getting Holm to the ground. 3/5 rounds was Tate failing to take Holm down and getting pick apart on her feet.
My point his, it's not that Holm is bad on the ground, it's that Tate is a very good wrestler, arguable the best wrestler at 135.
Now, if I were cornering Rousey, I would have told Rousey to be -way- less aggressive. Holm is a counter striker and is historically
great
at catching people rushing in. Bide you time, wait for an opportunity and dump her on her head. Get a reactive take down, instead that bull-rush clinch tactic Rousey is always doing. In that regard, Holm was the perfect counter style for Rousey's typical game plan.
