are you a casual fan? perhaps you're in it for the brutality and the blood and would prefer the days of old when there were no rules or sanctioning. or are you appreciative of the evolved ''sport'' and legitimacy associated with it today?

I would consider myself a "hardcore fan". I'm borderline obsessive
I just really have a genuine love for fighting. I watch all types of fighting, even street fights. Anything I see on tv that has to do with fighting gets watched. But most of all I'm a HUGE UFC fan

I'm a REAL MMA fan. And if you don't agree with my opinions, you clearly are NOT a REAL MMA fan and need to go back to watching boxing or figure skating.
Oh wait, this isn't the Trollin, Trollin, Trollin thread? Oh, well then I'm a serious enough fan to buy almost all of the ppv's and have nearly 4k posts at mmajunkie. But not serious enough to own 5,000 mma dvd's. Or any for that matter. So whatever label you want to give to that.

i suppose i'm an educated fan. as a result of being so into mixed martial arts, it's made me take on a new appreciation for boxing (after really paying attention to what bj penn and quinton jackson do on the feet), i can actually watch it now. it's also REALLY gotten me into jiu jitsu. i've always preferred the ground game, but watching the high level jiu jitsu guys in mma made me appreciate straight jiu jitsu that much more. thanks, mma!

I consider myself to be a legitamate fan.
From stand up brawls to ground game vs ground game, to of course mixing it.
I don't ever consider any fight to be a "bore"
My friends always ask me how I can watch the same UFC Unleashed episode even though I know who wins lol.

Go watch Salaverry vs Marquardt again and repeat that statement.
You could be the biggest MMA fan and still find fights boring.

I used to be a big boxing fan - it is afterall the 'sweet science'... Well if Boxing is a 'Science' MMA is the full curriculum: Science, Math, History etc... Believe it or not I love the thought processes that take place in an MMA fight.
Whether it ends with a submission, or a knockout I really love the set-up - when as a fan you don't see it coming until the replay and it becomes evident that the loser never saw it coming either and the victor was setting it up 3 moves in advance - like a chess match only super exciting.

Interesting comment, and you're correct in many ways. My response to a comment like that, though, is I'm not watching a movie. I'm watching a sport. Its great if the action is fierce, but sometimes styles make things 'boring'. Its the intrigue of seeing how styles do match up that makes things work for me. I remember watching Carmello Marello vs. Cheick Kongo and enjoying it. Its when I first started watching the UFC. The intrigue for me was that a smaller guy with a wrestling background could neutralize this big dangerous striker. That fight, looking back, would be considered a total snoozer to most, but I remember thinking that way at that very moment.
As for what kind of fan I am, I really enjoy looking at all levels. I'll switch gears and talk production (my background), to actual fights, to building fighter's personalities, the business of MMA, etc etc etc. There are so many aspects that I enjoy, and I'd almost like a career in some facet of the UFC or a MMA organization. I guess, I see all points of view on many issues, and can love and hate Junie Browning all at the same time.

I am a "real mma fan".....and if you're asking what makes up a "real mma fan" here is a check list (i previously posted this)
1. They have watched every Fedor fight on youtube countless times, and even schoolyard fights of his that weren't recorded
2. If you like more than 5 UFC fighters then you are a sellout and swing from Dana's proverbial nutz
3. competition is good for the sport regardless how corrupt and mismanaged the competition may be
4. Fedor is god
5. Lyoto Machida walks on water and there isnt a human alive that could possibly solve the riddle that is "the dragon"
6. If you don't agree with the opinion of a "real mma fan" you will be asked "have you even seen that fight?" or be told "maybe you need to go back and watch that again"...because any "real mma fan" wouldnt disagree with them
7. GSP/BJ=Hatfield/McCormicks....you CANNOT like both. PICK A SIDE!!!
8. Alistair Overeem is the best HW behind Fedor regardless of what rankings, public opinion and his record may indicate
9. Women have no place in mma....but i'd let Gina (insert inappropriate sexist remark here)
10. Dana White is the devil and if you think he's made strides to bring the sport to the forefront than you are a devil worshipping noob and need to be kicked in the nuts!
11. Brock Lesnar is a gimmick and even if he knocks Fedor cold :03 seconds into the fight he's still a "f**ken pro wrestler" that brings shame to the sport
12. Kimbo Slice is a fraud and any "real mma fan" will claim they have never wasted time watching one of his fights even if there is video evidence of them sitting infront of their computer watching his youtube brawls
13. It is necessary to say you like a random fighter from a small organization or overseas fight league to show your diversity...(kinda like listening to indie rock)
14. If you wear affliction t-shirts you're g*y, but tapout shirts are perfectly acceptable
15. Appreciating a brutal KO shows your inexperience and a "real mma fan" would much rather watch a sick submission

Damn. I fail miserably. I scored like 2 out of 15. One of those two questions was #7... I could have answered the complete opposite way and still got it right. SO in reality I scored 1 out of 15. I am ashamed.

that's because you're a UFC fan, not a real hard core MMA fan!
