August is going to be a packed month and the fall is staring to take shape. What fight will tell us the most about a fighter(s) and what might we learn?

good thread
for me, its down to,
gsp -whether he is boring or has just played it safe lately. (if u need 5 rounds of gnp an opponent to a decision, then you cannot be that entertaining. not 3 times in a row. sorry. and this ones up for arguement cus i wont believe youre right n i doubt u will believe im right either)
cain- self explanatory
frankie- fluke or no fluke? that is the question
shields- can he be champ material
and i know u were being specific to august but i just want to call all these fellas out.
august its definitely frankie. f--- toney!

*ANY FIGHT THAT'S SCHEDULED. not just August.
For me, it's Cain vs Lesnar.
Is Cain to small or will his smaller size help him be quicker and frustrate Lesnar.
Can Lesnar improve his awful stand up in just 3 months?
Rampage vs Machida
So many questions on this one.

On paper it's Dos Santos VS Nelson for me.

I'd proabaly have to say the biggest match where we can learn a lot will be Junior/Roy. There are questions from both sides that need to be answered. If Roy gets the TD how will Junior react and will he be able to overcome? How will Roy handle the standup of such a dangerous power striker like Junior? Both have looked damn impressive as of late, but these questions need to be answered in order to be able to tell if either of these guys are ready for the next step up in competition.
I think another really important fight is Palharas/Marquardt. Is Marquardt going to recover boldy after the dissapointing loss to Chael or will Palharas shine once again? This match should have title implications as well, especially for Palharas. He is slowly starting to become a major threat to anyone in the MW division. Very dangerous on the ground, iron jaw and his boxing is improving all the time. Will he be able to handle a striker like Marquardt? He faired well against Henderson somewhat(he even had that huge slam!), but we need to know how he will fair against a dynamic striker because Vitor and Silva(along with Chael) or at the top in the UFC HW division.
Final match for me is Florian/Maynard. Will Maynard continue to bully his opponents and grind out a decision or will the well rounded Florian get back straight into the title picture? Great matchup here and Maynards strongest test to date without a doubt. If Maynard can get a W over Florian that has to quite some of the haters that say he does not deserve a title shot. And if Florian wins he is right in that title picture as well. VERY interesting match.
I'd include Jones/Vladimir, but even if Vlady upsets Jones we all know Bones has an incredible future. He is solid everywhere just needs more cage time and get a little more technical. Some may say Junior is going to be a beast as well, but we need to see more of his ground game. I mean, you have guys like Cain, Lesnar and Carwin that do have solid ground games.

I was just including August obviously. So, many fights coming up that I'm trying to keep my focus on the fights happening soon!
Plenty of time to hype myself up for the matches coming in fall!

Of all previous posts, this is the one you call out?
This fight is actually one of the most complex in the UFC's immediate future. Dos Santos is a BB with n incredible standup game. Nelson is a good striker with an incredible grappling pedigree. Neither have ever been put on their heels in the UFC. How will Nelson fair against a world class striker? Can he secure a takedown against someone with superior footwork? Can Dos Santos roll with someone of Nelson's caliber? How does he react when he takes a power punch?
This might be the closest matchup in the near future.

Lots of good points brought up here. I'm looking at lesnar-Cain to answer a lot of questions. How will lesnar deal with someone who's striking might be the technically best he's faced yet? How will Cain deal with lesnar's strength advantage? How will lesnar deal with cain's speed? Lots of answers coming out of that one for me. But almost every fight you guys brought up has some big time questions to answer as well.

It would have been a bit away, but Hathaway Vs Dong Hyun Kim would have answered whether he had a one off good performance against Sanchez or if he really is that good.
For me though, it's Sherk Vs Dunham. This is another step up in competition for Dunham, can he keep performing well and improving, or will Sherks powerhouse wrestling take him out.

Or will Sherk get injured in camp for, what would this be the 3rd or 4th straight time? My money is on that

I think the rematch between Edgar and Penn will tell us if BJ's heart in still in the sport. If he loses, I believe he might retire. I fully expect him to come out and beat that ***, but you never know where BJ's head is at.

The Penn vs Edgar rematch will either confirm or disprove my thoughts that Penn fought the way he did in the last fight because he had a sinus infection and was on antibiotics. I believe a Penn who is in normal fighting shape will whoop Edgar.

I think Keith Jardines next fight will answer alot of questions people have about him.
Was he just facing top-notch competition that could find the homerun punch cleanly, or has his chin really "turned to glass."

I think it's Florian, for reasons I put in the "August Showdowns" thread - if he loses, he really has very few options left to him. it seems he has a bright future in broadcasting, so I'll be interested to see his motivation level against a tough up-and-comer like Maynard.

You mean few options in the UFC, right. WEC LW division, SF LW divsion, and Dream LW division would probably love to have the guy.

Lil Nog' and Bader is soon isnt it?
That is a fantastic match up. We see how good Bader really is and if Nog just slept on Brilz, should be good.

No argument there, Jak, but don't you get the sense, as I do, that Florian's only remaining ambition is to be the UFC LW champ? Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I don't see him ever slipping into journeyman status.
