I was convinced that Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson would be getting the next title shot with the massive win against Johnny Hendricks. But with Thompson booked vs MacDonald (in an amazing fight, one I am beyond excited for) what is next for the 170 king?
GSP was cageside for UFC 196 and Dana said afterwards it was simply a coincidence (people were talking about GSP / McGregor for 200, lol ! ) Carlos Condit is an obvious candidate but no announcement has been made whether or not he will get the rematch.
Another interesting point made up was that Dana and Lorenzo said Nate Diaz "makes sense" while I disagree, it surely adds another interesting dynamic to the 170 mix.
So who is next for Lawler? He usually likes to stay active, I expect him to be on the UFC 200 card. Possibly headlining vs GSP.
Also, does anyone else think that he will fight before / After UFC 200?
Thoughts?

I think UFC is going to make sure Robbie is the co main event at 200. All signs point to a rematch with Condit. Woodley hasn't fought in awhile. Too much is being made out of GSP going to a UFC event. And Thompson is set to fight Rory.

I think he fights at 200 for sure. Only question is his opponent. I think the UFC is gonna try its damndest to make it GSP. If not him then they might give it to Nate.
I don't see it being Woodley or Condit

This is what I was thinking, and to be honest, hoping for. I along with many others thought Condit won that fight hands down, this should be a rematch with Lawler challenging Condit for the belt In my opinion! Love both of these guys and think it makes the PERFECT co-main event to McGregor vs Aldo

As long as Rory fights like the Rory we saw when he was first making a name for himself in the UFC, then the fight between him and Wonderboy has the potential to be one of the best, craziest fights ever. I'd much rather see that then either of them against Robbie right now, tbh.

I think people are putting way too much stock in the Diaz thing, either Diaz. I think it's GSP personally but if not they can't go wrong with Woodley or Wonderboy (who could just fight each other if it goes to GSP).

Condit Rematch, Woodley, or Thompson/MacDonald all make sense.

It should if you are a sports organization. UFC is a business. As a business, they will look for the Lawler fight that would sell the most for UFC 200.
By order;
#1 GSP - if he's not coming back, then
#2 Nate Diaz - if he's not willing, then
#3 Carlos Condit II - if there's another if here, then
#4 Woodley - Even though I believe they'd cancel Rory v Thompson and have Thompson v Lawler over Woodley v Lawler.

Wonderboy is fighting Rory. And, while I don't think either Diaz is anywhere close to deserving of a title shot, we all know Dana don't give a fuuuuck about "deserving". He has already expressed interest in Nate vs Robbie, and I'm sure he wants to capitalize on the momentum and notoriety Nate has garnered after picking up a huge win in a PPV that's generated a ton of buzz and interest

Still Woodley

I don't see it happening. At all. He is the most deserving, by far. If life or the UFC was fair, it would be him. But flat out....nobody gives a crap about him. He's been out so long and hasn't been heard from him in so long that he's the forgotten man. Nobodys really interested in Robbie vs Woodley. GSP and Nate would generate a lot more interest, a lot more buys, and a lot more $$$

GSP or Condit
Condit 100% deserves it, he won that fight, GSP deserves it too...cause you know...he's the champ and stuff and he also beat Condit (so did Diaz)
