What's out there for Frankie Edgar?

Edgar is arguably the #1 contender in the FW division but since McGregor is getting the Aldo fight what is left for Edgar to do in the time being?
Aldo/McGregor is booked
Mendes/Lamas is booked
He just destroyed Swanson and already beat Oliveira. Bermudez just lost and Nik Lentz is fighting Tavares and they wouldn't be matched up anyway.
That's the entire top 10 in the division. Who's he going to fight next in FW?
Could he move back up to LW for a fight until McGregor/Aldo have fought?
Would a trilogy fight against Benson Henderson make any sense to anyone?

He should just go to 135. I know he dont want to, but im pretty sure he would get a quick title shot.

No Trilogy fight, I don't think to many people would be that interested in that fight. I think there are certainly some fun fights available for him at 155 but not Benson. I would love to see him square off with someone like a Donald Cerrone, Michael Johnson or Bobby Green.
Your right though 145 is tough. The biggest 145 fights coming up in the coming weeks are Corassani/Sicilia and Hollaway/Miller, maybe give him the winner of Hollaway and Miller but that's still a big step back from where he was. Other than that Bermudez is the only one make that makes sense.

He'll have to take a fight with a guy who breaks into the top 10 or someone off a loss unless he decides to wait out the title shot he rightfully earned

At least in this case if he is given a Hacran Dias or someone like that it will be because he's the best available option and not a gimme fight.

If Lentz beat Tavares in a few weeks and and isn't injured. He would be on a 4 fight win streak, They could use him as an opponent for Frankie the same way they used him for Mendes

That would be good, I just would rather see Frankie get in there sooner I suppose. Already been off for 2 months, they don't fight for 4 weeks so it would be around a 6 month lay-off for Frankie by the time that fight materialized.

They are already booking bards into April/May anyways so the timetable still works out for Lentz. It sucks for Frankie but the options are limited

If Raphael Assuncao gets hurt again, then how about Urijah Faber moves back up to fight Edgar? East Coast VS West Coast Superfight!

This is what I was going to suggest. This matchup has been talked about a lot lately, and with both guys in somewhat awkward positions in their weightclasses, I think now is a great time for it

I like this fight a lot. Uriah mentioned that he'd be interested in a catch weight fight at 140lbs but Dana tends to crap on catch weight fights.
If Frankie hadn't just done TUF, Id say get these two in for coaching gigs. With Aldo fighting in May and Uriah sort of out of the mix, it would be a good, high profile fight coaching gig and fight that doesn't lock up either division too bad.
And Uriah's desire for a catch weight is that he said if he did move back up to 145, he'd want some time to pack on a little muscle. TUF is a great way to do that. Especially if they do a summer season with the fights in August instead of waiting until December. TUF might do better as a summer show anyways.

Frankie seems set on getting another crack at the 145' pound strap. IMO, he should stay there & cut down any opponent Dana & co. sends his way. He is more than capable of doing that. But i do kind of agree that Frankie is in a state of purgatory if he wants to remain active in the division… he'd need to take on someone ranked much much lower
Personally (here comes another unpopular opinion), I cringed every time that Frankie implied he deserved a shot at Aldo more than Conor McGregor… I mean come on, how does this warrant a title shot?: 3 RD UD over a pretty solid (possibly un-ranked at the time) opponent in Charles Oliviera, 3rd RD TKO win over a BJ Penn that had absolutely no business stepping inside the octagon & a dominant 5th RD SUB over Cub Swanson. His victory over Cub is the only reason he is in title contention right now. It cemented him as a Top 3 fighter at 145.
Frankie's time will come again. I still think he will fight for the title in 2015

There's a chance that one of Aldo/McGregor/Lamas or Mendes gets hurt and he fills in.
After watching McGregor last night i'd love to see how he do against someone like Edgar.

Maybe Frankie should just pull a Vitor and move up to LW for one fight, hoping that regardless of the outcome he remains firmly entrenched in the 145lb title convo. Just a thought

More than anything, I think the fact Edgar has lost to Aldo over the past 2 years disqualifies him. Frankie came to 145 as a number one contender at 155. I believe that coming down a weight class at that high a rank affords you a high ranking in the lower weight class.
But he lost to Aldo. And while he did well, he still lost that fight by a solid UD.
Conor is the fresh match up. I don't like seeing all these rematches when there are good viable fresh contenders. If (when) Aldo beats Conor, then there really are no fresh contenders at 145 since Bernudez lost to Lamas. At that point a Frankie rematch makes sense.
205 is the same. I'd rather see Bones/Rumble before Gus/Jones just because it is a fight I haven't seen. I Actually think Gus is better than Rumble but I'd also love to see Jon completely clean out the division. If Gus beats Rumble and Jon beats Gus, there really won't be an awesome fight in the wings since Rumble will be working his way back up. Rashad/Jones 2? Jones/Davis? Yawn.

While I am not trying to disagree with you at all, ill say that ive always been fond of rematches… that is rematches of ultra
competitive
fights. And by competitive I guess I mean fights that were so close they were controversial. Or hell even a fight that just ended because of one little mistake (ex. Aldo vs Mendes I). It brings a new element to the fight for me. I love seeing how much the two have grown & what adjustments they make. Jones vs Gus would be a perfect example of a rematch id like to see. I'm extremely excited to see Lawler & Hendrick's rivalry concluded if it ever happens
If thats how you feel, then you better hope Conor beats Aldo. You'll get to see a TON of fresh match ups at 145.
… … oh wait… Jose would get an immediate rematch wouldn't he???

He should beat (soundly) anyone they put in front of him.
I believe Conor wil beat Aldo/take the belt.
He is just a better match for Aldo than Edgar.
Similarly, Edgar is a very tough match for Conor & he could make Conor's reign a short one.
Pure speculation of course, but I can see it happening.

Damn skippy he would. There surely have been some fantastic rematches/trilogies for sure and if a guy loses to the champ but goes on a tear he damned well deserves another crack, especially if he's leaving contenders in his wake, or the other fight(s) were close.
