correct me if im wrong but i dont think the ufc has the authority to can a referee. i think they're appointed by state athletic commissions.
if they were in house refs i think it would be too easy for a fight to be fixed or altered one way or another and go against trying to get mma in as one of the main sports.

this is the case, but I gather that the promotion can request certain refs and not others.
Big John doesn't ref at UFC events since coming out of retirement, and Lesnar requested that Mazigatti not ref his second UFC fight. I guess it's up to the commission to either honour the fighter's request or ignore it.
but Miragliotta is just awful.

the reason Big John doesn;t ref the UFC anymore is he is a regiestered ref or w.e in California only right now everywhere else has enough refs so since the UFC hasn;t been to cali since Big John retired hes not refing for them yet and Dan mirgliota isn't that bad ill say the kimbo thing was bad but when u see a guys ear increase by aabout twice its size in 2 seconds some people tend to worry for the saftey of that guys hearing maybe?? idk the amir stoppage wasn't that bad amir has fought once in his life and dan is supposed to know that he can take punishment when hes on his knees making no attempt to get up or defend him self and takes 4 -5 unansweerred shots to the head???

Didn't know that about Big John, but I thought there was bad blood between Dana & him. at any rate...
as far as Miragliotta goes, I'm not referring to the Kimbo-Thompson fight, or even the Amir fight (although he was out of position, but s--- happens quickly in a fight, and every ref makes mistakes). I think it's just the number of questionable actions on his part - particularly when he poked Herring in the eye during the pre-fight instructions at Herring-Lesnar (not that it affected the outcome of the fight).
Given the number of refs, all of whom have made mistakes, that are now working fights for the UFC, they could really send Miragliotta elsewhere for retooling.
