In your opinion which songs from past to present are your personal fav guitar rifts ever? I'm sure Americas will mention rifts from bands/artists that the rest of the world will have never heard of, but its all about opinion anyway. I'm sure they'll be some great ones too.
I'll start and feel free to post some videos and while you're there try and post some of mine too, cuz I don't know how too on an iPhone lol

No, solos are so in; I have Hendrix in twice and Eric Claptons. I did miss Santanas Black Magic Woman. Love that "Rift" Ha

I was just about to hit the like button until I saw Pour Some Sugar on Me on there.
I mean it's a decent riff for Def Leppard but it's still Def Leppard. And Metallica has a ton of other cooler riffs over Sandman, although that is their biggest and most popular. Master of Puppets is just riff heaven.
Thunder Kiss kicks *** though. We used to jam on that song when I was 17 because it was such an easy but *** kicking song. And Dimebag (RIP) was a riff machine too.
I think this question needs to be narrowed down by genre. There are a million cool riffs out there but how can you compare a SRV lick to a Kerry King riff?

And to answer the actual question, I think Hetfield-Mustaine was one of the best guitarist rifts. You've had plenty of singer-guitarist rifts like EVH and David Lee Roth. But very rarely do you have guitar on guitar hate. It took those guys over 30 years to finally hug it out and that's only because Hetfield went all soft... or maybe he just finally realized he won.

Technically 'How Soon is Now' is not a riff...its a strummed chord progression. One of my all time fave songs being a huge Smiths, Morrissey and Jonny Marr fan.

I was just going off the top of my head.
Probably should have thrown some Bon Jovi (Livin' On a Prayer) on there as well, in terms of raw riffing. John Cougar Mellancamp (Jack and Diane) and Bruce Springsteen (Born in the USA or Glory Days) too. Again, I'm not contending that these are great songs or that they are the best work of the artists... if you play those isolated riffs though, most people will be able to name the song.
The whole point of a riff is to be catchy and lure someone into the song. I think those songs all succeeded
My Sharona had another memorable riff. Love Shack by the B-52's as well.
Tom Petty had some great riffs as well... American Girl is the first one that jumps out to me.
One of my all-time favorites is "Story of My Life" by Social Distortion. So simple, yet catchy.
Sidenote: Seek and Destroy or Master of Puppets are probably my two favorite Metallica riffs. Enter Sandman is just their most widely popular (thanks in large part to Mariano Rivera)
