I'm curious to see the general opinion of this fight's outcome.
So simply, which judge do you agree with.
There are arguments for each option, but I like statistics and wanted a poll.

It was a Draw. period. Maynard got the 1st round 10-8, and the 3rd round 10-9. Edgar got the rest 10-9.
It was a Draw. Period. Good thread. Great fight. Maynard beat the living crap out of Edgar the 1st round but Edgar showed the heart and SKILL of a champion and used combos, foot work and takedowns to earn a Draw and stay Champ. We all know he would have wanted the Win though.
Pettis vs Edgar?? Can't Wait!!!!!!!
Gray should probably get the winner of that.

I dont agree with the manner in which it came but this is one of the best decisions NSAC judges have presented in a while. Much props to the third judge.

And props to Gray and Frankie. They brought it. This was the title fight a lot of people didn't want to see.

I don't understand these judges though. Do they get together and say "Hey I'm gonna give the fight to Maynard, You to Edgar, that way we make it Dramatic! and you make it a Draw so its the right call in the end
"
WTF! Bottom Line.. Two of those judges are Morons!! Only one has my respect. Everyone on this site can judge an MMA bout better. Everyone so far is saying a Draw was the right decision and that's the truth.

I agree with the draw as well. There is a small chance where Maynard won the first 10-9 as some judges simply do not like to give 10-8 rounds, thus Edgar wins the fight 48-46. But I'm glad (overall) the fight was scored a draw. I bet the judged did get together to make it dramatic lol.

It's scary to think about. And it's hard to tell a guy to just finish the fight to avoid a decision when their opponents just refuse to go down like Edgar/Maynard did. Judges need to be more liberal on 10-8 rounds when damage is displayed in my opinion.

its was ruled a draw and thats the correct decision. A case could be made that either fighter won it but it was a draw bottom line.
even though it was the right decision I think we can all agree that its not one that anybody wants

Lot's of respect to the judge who scored it a draw.
He/she knew it wouldn't be a popular ending, but didn't let the pressure get to him/her and did his/her job correctly.
Usually that mindset turns out decisions like Phan/Garcia, Jung/Garcia, and Bisping/Hammil, but it worked this time.

I went with Maynard.
He had control, pushed the pace, destroyed Frankie round 1, did more damage, looked to finish.
round 1 10-8 Maynard, round 3 10-9 Maynard and round 5 10-9 Maynard

To get a score of 48-46, you have to have a 10-8 round and all three judges gave the first round 10-8 to Maynard. The judge that scored it 48-46 Edgar gave the last four rounds to Edgar all at 10-9.

Actually, no, if one judge gave a 10-9 for Gray in the first then a 48-46 Edgar result isn't possible unless Gray got 2 rounds and Frankie scored a 10-8 round in one of the three rounds he would have had to won, which I think we can agree was nearly impossible, even with the state of MMA judging. With the 10 point must system, you're missing 6 points in a 5 round fight. In fact, all the judges did 6 point swings, meaning all scored a 10-8 round, with the only logical possibilty being the 10-8 1st round for Gray.

actually, if the judges only gave Maynard a 10-9 first, then scored the rest the same way it was scored last night, then it ends up 47-47, 48-46 Edgar, and 48-46 Edgar. That would result in a majority decision for Frankie.
1 judge did only give Gray a 10-9 first. So that score would have remained the same. Now, with giving the first a 10-9 to Gray across the board, it gives 1 point back to Frankie for the other 2 judges. So you have the 47-47 turn into 48-46 for Frankie, which gives him 2 winning scores. And the judge that saw it for Gray, gets turned into a draw.

I agree with MightMike. I could see how a judge would give Gray the fifth round, however. What I don't see is how a judge could give 2-5 to Frankie. Gray clearly won the third.
In the current scoring system I would say a draw was the correct result. That being said, I don't think there should be draws in an MMA match. It would be tough for fights like this, but I think they should confer and pick a winner.

I agree with you on everything except not having draws. The result sucks, but it was correct. I honestly think there should be more draws in MMA. When you force a judge to pick a winner for every fight, especially fights like last night, then the possibility for one guy being "robbed" increases. A fight like Garcia/Jung IMO would have been better scored a draw. That fight was extremely close with both guys rocking the other multiple times throughout.

Dude all 3 judges scored the first round 10-8. Your math is just not right. Give it up.
