I was recently watching golf, for some reason. Not only was it boring, but they did a horrible job of saying any background info about their competitors. Which sport do you think does the best job of getting their fans personally vested in its athletes?

Top athletes, or all athletes?
If we're talking top, then NASCAR has to be up there. Top 8-10 drivers make ridiculous cash and have cult like following's (not by me, but others).
If we're talking entire league? I'd say the NBA or MLB... they do a great job of showcasing international talent and growing the sports worldwide.

I think MLB focuses way more on the teams than the players. NFL does a decent job, plus there is actual strategy to think about, so talk about individual athletes is not as necessary. I think that regular season baseball does a poor job of personalizing its athletes. I can understand playoff baseball, because the announcers take more time to break down the coaching strategies, etc.
At least UFC and Bellator have Countdown shows, etc.

Seriously, I think that the UFC does one of the best jobs of showcasing and presenting their athletes to the fans. Every single time there's a run up to an event, they go out of their way to produce shows that let you into the lives and personalities of the fighters. There's a lot of things that you could criticize the UFC for but this is one area that I think they're doing great at.

Plus, most UFC fighters are fan-friendly. Some of those who don't understand the game are arrogant MeatHeads *cough, Frankie Edgar and Johny Hendricks, *cough*, but most are pretty cool though.
