As unimpressive as roy's win over kimbo was, he had a very smart gameplan for a quarterfinal fight of a tournament. Other than one power shot and maybe a few glancing shots roy didn't receive much punishment. He spent little energy laying on kimbo and easily won the fight. No matter how boring the fight was the way it was fought makes sense.
and now to the original topic, i can't see roy ever touching top 10 hw in the ufc. He could play the gate keeper role for a while being the next heath herring

Petruzelli is a ground guy and what did he do to Kimbo? Knocked him the f*ck out.

Seth was a full contact Kumite karate champ before he started MMA. He's was also a K-1 Kickboxer where he knocked down Bob Sapp with the same shot he KO'd Kimbo with.
But back on topic....I used to really like Roy Nelson and was surprised the UFC didn't pick him up after the IFL folded. I see why they didn't now as I was really disappointed with not only his performance against Kimbo but his early attitude on TUF. I do think however that he may still win the show at which point he could loose three in a row and still not be cut. If he makes it to the finals and looses, I see them feeding him to MIr so Frank can get some payback for their snooze fest of a grappling match before he gets permanently cut.

Let's look at this from a marketing perspective. You want to sell a fight with Roy Nelson. You want sponsors. You want mainstream sponsors. Well, Roy looks like he endorses all of the mainstream sponsors...Burger King, Budweiser, Breyer's Ice Cream, somebody that makes couches, etc etc...
Except he's not anywhere near the image that anyone wants to sell. Could you imagine if he got in the UFC and belly bumped his way to 5-6 wins in a row? How do you promote him vs Lesnar? "Two massive heavyweights...one is all muscle...one is all...ROY"
He'll be in the UFC after the show, but he'll be there to lose. He'll get no easy fights, he'll get Mir or GG or someone else who needs to pummel him for a quick visibility boost.

IFL /= UFC
Roy might of been a champion in the IFL (same with Rothwell), but the HW competition in the UFC, right now, is just INSANE. Nog, Brock, GG, JDS, CC, Mir.... the list just goes on and on. I don't see Roy really getting too far in the UFC's HW division.
