Marquardt's takedown defense just isn't that good. Shields has effective takedowns and it looks like Marquardt doesn't spend much time working off of his back.

I think Marquardt could have good TDD but he was so wild against Sonnen that he left a lot of openings to get taken down and wasn't very good at getting off his back. So I think if Marquardt is patient and ready to defend all of Shields shots then he could avoid the TD and KO Shields at the first opportunity. Marquardt is certainly has all of the tools and advantages to stuff Shields. It wouldn't be a bad idea though for Marquardt to put Shields on his back and show him what real GnP looks like. I think this would be Marquardts fight to lose.

That fight was so short though, it is really hard to say that Nate can consistantly win like that. Maia also isn't known for his striking skills either, which doesn't help.

I think Shields has better take downs than Maia, not better Jitz though (obviously). It would be a nice match though if Shields can avoid some bombs, even though he took that round of *** whooping from Hendo like a champ.
