Don't forget the Roger Clemens trial that is coming up. What a waste of money.

Re: Why is so much money being wasted in trials for Barry Bo
Well, if you want the justice system to be respected and legit, you can't let people blatantly lie to a grand jury. You can't lie under oath. Bonds had immunity and could have been truthful, but he lied and comitted a crime.
I think the stats about how much money this is costing the taxpayers is a little overblown. Would you rather have the federal judge working and hearing a case, or sitting in his chambers, doing nothing and collecting a check? Prosecutors are the same way.

The government has spent over $50 million on this so far.
The judge and prosecutors salary is a fraction of that amount.
It's not bankrupting the country (plenty of other programs are doing that), but it's ridiculous that they are dedicating the amounts of resources that they are to something that really doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things (to anyone outside of Bonds).
What really bothers me is the fact that the Senate even had the hearings in the first place. They had no business investigating steroids in baseball, they shouldn't have stuck their noses in it and had they focused on actually running this country (as opposed to getting involved with baseball), Bonds never would have been put in the position to lie in the first place.
But no, they are riding this into the ground and spending millions upon millions of dollars doing it.

I'd definitely agree that the Senate hearings were a joke. If the FBI wanted to investigate steroid use behind closed doors, that's fine, because it was rampant in baseball. But, the spectacle, time and resources used by the Senate were ridiculous.
However, I just don't see how the price tag could be over 50 million for the Bonds trial. I know the BALCO trial could cost some serious coin because of experts involved. But, for this trial, it is just a bunch of lay witnesses.
There hasn't been an official invoice produced stating how much it has cost. Just people speculating as to how much the trial has cost.
Regardless, for the justice system to be respected, you can't tell blatant lies under oath.

It's hard to respect the justice system when they have kept Greg Anderson in jail for what, 2 years now?
He spent 3 months in jail for the actual crime he committed (steroid distribution and money laundering)... and has spent at least 3x as long for the crime of refusing to testify.
The government should have dropped all of this after Anderson sat in jail for a year and said he wouldn't testify.
That's just my opinion though, and I know there are a lot of other opinions that people have about this.
