If the current UFC LHW champion Daniel Cormier loses his highly anticipated rematch to recently returning Jon Jones then his best move may be a return to the HW division where his chances for 2 time Championship gold will be much better in my opinion. Here are the current top fighters in both divisions.
Champion
:
Fabricio Werdum
1
Cain Velasquez
2
Stipe Miocic
3
Alistair Overeem
4
Ben Rothwell
5
Junior Dos Santos
6
Andrei Arlovski
7
Travis Browne
8
Josh Barnett
9
Mark Hunt
Frank Mir
and
Champion
:
Daniel Cormier
1
Jon Jones
2
Anthony Johnson
3
Alexander Gustafsson
4
Glover Teixeira
5
Ryan Bader
6
Ovince Saint Preux
7
Rashad Evans
8
Mauricio Rua
9
Jimi Manuwa
10
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Good point. Could see Werdum vs Cormier very soon.

If he stayed at LH after a loss then I could see him and Bader fighting.

Be pointless for DC when he could beat any HW and get a title shot.

Not likely that DC moves up while Cain is still near the top of the division. More likely that Jones wins the title and then tries to do what Mcgregor wanted to do - 2 division champ simultaneously. Masahiko actually reckons its probably harder for Jones to make LHW weight than DC now. DC has done it often enough now, and is short enough, that he can still get his tubby *** there. Jones is so big that he needed that slender frame to make weight. If he is doing power-lifting and adding more muscle, it's going to start getting very hard for him to make weight. Especially as he gets older

Interesting.
It would really, really put a strain on AKA. Look at what happened at Alpha Male. As close as that camp is, I just can't see it happening.
I'd be more likely to see him "retire" to be a well payed commentator and then maybe try a comeback once Jones moves up to HW. If Jones stays healthy and runs out his Daniel/Rumble/Gus gauntlet, then it is very possible that the belt will be vacated again sometime in early 2017.

DC was such a promising talent at HW, imagine him cleaning that division up now.

I'm not so sure how that looks once he reaches the top of the food chain. Winning decisions versus Nelson, Barnett, and Mir doesn't necessarily mean you are going to do well against Werdum, The Reem, JDS, Stipe, or even Travis Browne or Hunt.
Those guys hit hard as f--- and have better wrestling defense that Rumble. Rumble almost took his block off with one punch. I'm not sure what happens when JDS or Hunt hit him full force a few times.

I would rather see him drop down and Luke move up and fight Jones.
Or, stay at LHW and still be number 2 in the division, while waiting for Jon to move upto HW.
He would probably still be in the top 3-5 HWs for sure but there are still some potentially bad matchups up there for him.
