Personally, I'd say no. It doesn't matter what happens in Silvas fights between now & retirement, I'll consider him the GOAT. What sets him apart from GSP is his finishing ability. There's no doubt that GSP is a phenomenal MMA fighter, but Silva has a skill set that's just a level above him IMO.
Of course, GSP is about 6 years younger than Silva, if he keeps fighting until Silvas age who knows what he can accomplish.

I put yes. I already think that GSP is the better overall fighter. If he had the finishing ability that Silva did it would be a no-brainer. If GSP could "prove" that his less flashy style was superior to Silvas, then it would be another no-brainer.

Would you give GSP P4P if he beat Silva?

As a big Silva fan.........i'd say yes, if the fight is at 185.
GSP would finally have moved up and beat the best.
Sure silva is getting old but he is still at "his prime"

I say no simply for the haters of GSP and the Silva lovers. If GSP wins they will claim either A. He greased or B. Silva is obviously passed his prime look how old he is.

that is the problem with the fight.......so many excuses EITHER way. Doesn't matter who wins
but as a silva fan there is no way you can say he is "too old" if the fight happens in 2013

Yes. Especially if he wins via flying armbar.

I put yes. GOAT basically stands for Greatest P4P Of All Time and nobody would have accomplished what GSP had in just beating the current well-deserved #1 p4p (and GOAT in my opinion), who was a weightclass above him. GSP beating AS is a bigger feather than AS beating Jones due to AS' comparative placement in the p4p and GOAT lists.

No, it would make him the current P4P best in the world. He won't be the GOAT until he breaks all of Anderson's records.

Current P4P, yes, without a doubt. But when I think about GOAT, I look at a fighters career in general. All the best fighters lose when they get old, Silva losing a couple fights when he's 38 wouldn't change my opinion that he's the GOAT. But if GSP continued his run of dominance, it would be an interesting debate.

I don't think so. Silva is the best fighter of all time regardless of what happens now.

I'd say so, assuming the fight takes place at 185.

One of the reasons I'd say no is that GSP is currently 31, still in his athletic prime (although coming to the end of it). Anderson Silva is 37, well past his athletic prime.

Muscle maturity occurs from ages 35-40. Peak capabilities in explosive moments occurs in late teens or very early 20's. Peak aerobic capacity occurs in the early to mid-20's.
It really depends on the individual. Silva, I suspect, will start seeing a decline in the next two years or so. Currently, I would put him at the tail end of his range. GSP is smack dab in the middle.
Since it varies by person so much, we're guessing.

I have to say NO,just because of age and Silva being out primed..Silva is doing great things still to this day,but if GSP beats him and goes onto win just as many title defences, then yes(maybe),but I expect Jon Jones to be in the same boat by then too...Fedor got beaten by not being the same fighter until it was too late to transition and be patient..Would he be the goat if he retired before them 3 in a row losses?.Yes I reckon..If Ando moved up and got beaten off Bones would that of made him goat?..No coz he hasn't moved up a weightclass like GSP and Silva would be willing to do..
The goat should be classsed as what you do at you're own weight for as many defences as possible(not moving up and facing the best in the division above IMO)..
Andos the goat(period), doesent matter if he gets splattered off GSP,it's what GSP does after then that should class him IMO..

Well, I don't think Fedor's age is what did him in so much. He was 33/34 when he had his 3 losses. That's not over the hill.
In my opinion, it was that he stagnated. Same camp, same style and the game changed around him. Hell, one of his three losses was to a 42 year old, the other to a 34 year old. Bigfoot was 31 when he beat Fedor.
Frankly, even without the 3 losses, Fedor's GOAT status wasn't close to being as universally accepted as Anderson's is. A lot of folks talked about his record, while impressive looking, not being against top tier competition in a lot of people's eyes.
If GSP beats Silva, he will immediately leap to the top of the current P4P debate. But of all time, his track records isn't up to Silva's. Now, if their records get closer, i.e., similar number of defenses and unbeaten streak, finishes, etc., a win over Silva now would GSP over the top at that point in the future. As is, right now, no. GSP's got more to do.

Fedor was WINNING,like, everytime,so he didn't feel the need to change things and evolve with the times,I mean why should he???..He got exposed coz fighters evolved and he got caught and the gentlemanly don't give a f--- attitude to fighting and agreesivness cost him,..When he did train after at Golden Glory he learned to be more patient, but it was too late as he was nearing retirement and didn't feel the need to carry on..So f--- if a 42 year old got him,Jake shields got him at MW,big f---ing deal..Couture was done at 39 at HW so decided to drop down and be the champ at LHW,then he got f---ed up off Chuck then retired and win the HW belt in the first time of asking..I'll guarantee if Fedor came back now with his patient approach to striking and being in someone's guard and staying the f--- away from a big twats clinch he would avenge them losses IMO...Nothing to do with age..
