Would the UFC benefit on trying to get some of the high School studs before they go to college example Chance Marsettler from Pa wrestling is a sophmore who might end up being best wrestler ever from the USA.The kid is a beast at 16 he won PIAA state tiles at 152 and 160 in his first two yrs of high school in the toughest state there is for high school wrestling and made it look easy.If I were Dana I may wanna talk to someone like that before major colleges do.

Why, fighter have a lot of free time only fighting once or twice every few months. You would be a fool not to go to college on a chance the ufc might work out. Not to mention the transition from wrestling to mma

No.
The last thing the UFC needs is a bunch of wrestlers that can't strike and know no jiu jitsu. Look at Bubba Jenkins, phenomenal wrestler but he's not set the world alight like many people expected. That was after college too. You can't take a high school kid and think he can beat fighters who have been training in every discipline in MMA for years.

Re: Would UFC benefit in Trying to get hs recruits b 4colle
No! Main reason it becuase it takes time and money to develop talent..... Was suck for them to put thousands of dollars on guys that are not sure things...... Look at guys like Milicic or Kwame Brown in basketball. Let them develop themselves, keep and eye out, and then come in and put them on TUF!

Re: Would UFC benefit in Trying to get hs recruits b 4colle
Yeah but bubba Jenkings will be a star bar none.If you look at a kid like Marsetttler who as a sophmore in hs would probaly keep GSP on his back at lerast 17 out of 25 min of of the the fight why shouldnt Dana recruit now?

If you look at high School Wrestlers now that are all ready elite and started training boxing and BJJ defense already by age 21 they will be way ahead of the curb
soon.Mark my words on that!

Well if they want to start training right out of high school, good for them but why on earth would the ufc pay for any of it.

I'm not so sure being ahead of the curb [
sic
] is all that it's chocked up to be.
I think you would better off if you got someone with the nerve to observe if they deserve to reserve a spot.

Yeah, that is the thing. With no other big organization to threaten the UFC, they really don't have to have feeder leagues or worry about recruits. If the kid goes to college and wins an NCAA title, its just another way to promote them. If the kid goes and trains MMA instead, comes out and rattles off 8 wins in a regional league making 1-3K a fight, then he will be even more appreciative of a 10/10K deal to start.

Re: Would UFC benefit in Trying to get hs recruits b 4colle
I see this playing out similar to the way youth basketball has played out.
The NBA didn't set up youth leagues... but someone eventually came along and occupied that market (the AAU).
Maybe it's the big time camps, maybe it's an independent organization, but I think someone occupies that segment of the market when the time is right... and I don't think it will be the UFC.
I just don't see the UFC spending years on a startup that may or may not work. They did that once and it panned out... they will continue to focus on the UFC (top tier, elite and established fighters) and I think let someone else tap into the youth segment of the market.
Just my thoughts.

I agree with this totaly if a camp like Greg Jackson could get a kid like Chance Maresettler to atleast get it in his head at age 16 of how good an how much he can make in mma it maybe worth bypassing college. That said there isnt that many HS that are that elite but thjere are good ones at least as good as KOS and Fitch were in hs and the have done pretty well.If u could land a kid like that Marettler kid that would be huge.I would bet ten grand he would beat Guida at age 16 with one mma training. If u can land a young recruit like that that is gonna be big in 5 yrs
