UFC’s Yoel Romero awarded $27.45 million windfall in tainted supplement lawsuit

It’s a good day to be Yoel Romero. That’s because a New Jersey court awarded “Soldier of God” $27.45 million after winning a lawsuit against Gold Star Performance Products, the company behind the contaminated substance that was the root of his failed drug test in 2016.
After striking a deal with United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA), his original nine-month suspension was reduced after Romero threatened to bring his case to arbitration, where he could’ve faced a two-year ban from mixed martial arts (MMA) had it not been resolved in his favor.
Not content, Romero sued Gold Star Performance products last year, and now everything is coming up roses for the hulking Middleweight. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani has the details straight from Abraham Kawa, Romero’s manager, and his lawyer, Howard Jacobs.
“$27.45 million is the total Yoel was awarded — $3 million for lost wages, $3 million for reputable harm, $3 million for emotional damage ... multiplied that times three for the state of New Jersey ‘Consumer Fraud Act.’”
Minus legal fees, of course.

It’s a huge win for the Romero camp all the way around not only when it comes to finances, but he is now officially cleared of any wrong doing when it comes to USADA and the public eye. It will also give him the upper hand in his ongoing war of words with fellow power-puncher, Paulo Costa.
