Tales of Everyday Life

have you met druggies?
pffft the lesson he just learned is he can do it again and if he gets caught, well nothing happens cuz the police ain't gonna do shit.
and if he doesn't get caught then he makes money
there's literally no downside, that's what he learned.
Have YOU met any druggies?

He didn't learn a goddamn thing one way or the other. An addict is going to do addict shit no matter what. And Bucky is basically in Chicago, nothing was going to happen anyways.

And even if it did, what do you envision as actually happening. Dudes gonna just claim the same thing he did to the cops, that it was his daughter and he knew nothing, and then what? It goes to trial, everyone wasted a whole bunch of time and taxpayer money, for a scumbag who either going to get acquitted or get a slap on the wrist at most anyways. And we're back at the same outcome we're in right now.

It's 11:30 on a work night, Bucky isn't willing to go vigilante (and good on him for it), and pressing charges would have been nothing more than a performative action that wastes time to make himself feel better. Don't hate the player, hate the game. Why should Bucky waste more of his time here?

I get the pressing charges angle, but practically I just don't see a point in this case. Which is a pretty fucking sad commentary on society actually.

I've been to like 20 UFC/Bellator/PFL shows. MSG, Barclays, Long Island, Newark, TD Gardens, Atlantic City.

Were you at the Barboza/Lee card in AC? I saw like 5 fights in the stands. Fucking idiots. Meanwhile I sat next to a couple of Muay Thai trainees who were hoping to catch Matt Serra so he could autograph one of their action figures.
No I wasn't! I was planning to go to that one too because AC tickets are (or were) much cheaper but I don't remember why I didn't make it. I was at the unbelievably bad Faber-Barao 2 card at Prudential. Probably the worst MMA card I've ever been too. Convinced my sister and brother in law to pay up for the tickets and it wasn't until the 9th fight that we got a finish (Abel Trujillo) and my BIL was in the bathroom for that one lol. The only other finish was the awful Barao-Faber fight. Just boring decision after boring decision.

At least when you pay up for a concert you can be pretty sure you're gonna get your money's worth. That event really soured me on the ticket prices and totally ruined it for my BIL who will never pay up for an event again.

No no no

It was way better in the old days, they are just mailing it in today, all old cards were great, etc etc etc

Did you miss the memo?

Sporting events in the US are a bit different. A rando trust fund kid from Chelsea in Manhattan who has more money than sense would pay $1,000 to see Senegal play Greece when he couldn't find either of them on the map, just for the purpose of putting it on his social media account and get the dopamine rush from random likes.

And then you have the corporate watch parties that use these events to entertain wealthy clients or conduct business. They write the tickets off as a tax deductible business expense.

Oh yea... everyone complains "WHO CAN AFFORD THESE PRICES" for major events like the Super Bowl.

Corporations... that is who affords the Super Bowl level prices.

They buy the ticket for $10,000+, or the luxury box for $1,000,000+... and they either give it out to top performers, or, to clients/perspective clients as reward or enticer to do future business. It then gets written off as a business expense (which it is).

90%+ of the people at the Super Bowl are there because it's tangentially associated with their business or a business their business is trying to do business with.

I would understand the outrage more if the Super Bowl wasn't being broadcast in high def on a public station that literally everyone who has access to a TV can watch for 'free'.

At the end of the day, 125,000,000 bothered to watch last years Super Bowl broadcast... a high percentage of them (myself included) would have loved to attend the event if the pricing was what they considered to be reasonable. When you have a venue that can hold 60,000-80,000 people and you also have literally millions of people who are willing to pay the general admission price? Well, general admission price is going to keep going up because the NFL is a for-profit entity and they want to grow their brand and the way you do that is to bring in as much revenue as possible.

People saying it's not fair... it's the ultimate fairness. Just about everyone has an opportunity to get in, even if it requires something unreasonable like selling a kidney or robbing a bank.

Are we actually watching the Rousey card or nah?

Like, I'll watch if we have a decent group of people live threading it, but otherwise I'll probably skip it. I just cannot get hyped for a WMMA main event where the competitors have a combined age of 73.

I love freak shows events with washed up vets! I'm in!

Fuck no
Who wants to watch two has been grandmothers "fight"

I WANT to want to watch this. I do.

But since it's an MVP slopshit card, I can't shake the feeling each fight is either going to be "old name vs regional can" in a squash fight, or "old name vs old name" moving like slow zombies and all of us begging them to retire and go away.

It's just hard to get it up for that you know?

I think I can still get it up for Gina :)

Exactly
Its gonna suck

If someone gets suckered into watching it that's on them

Not that you're implying this Crete, but just so no one thinks I'm the worlds biggest pussy (I'm not... I'm just a regular sized pussy)...

If only my daughters phone had been taken I wouldn't have ever considered calling the police (not that I did call them, the business owner did).

I actually did tell this (see below) to my daughter yesterday, just so she didn't get the false impression that police exist to be her butler.

I would have assumed that it was a misunderstanding and one of the girls accidently grabbed my daughters phone, threw it in her backpack, it was on silent (why they weren't picking it up). I would have driven to the address and confronted the other parent like a reasonable human being and given him and his daughter the benefit of the doubt, collected my daughters phone and been on my way. Zero need to involve police in that situation.

When it ended up being multiple phones taken (much less likely it was an accident), all of them pinged to the same house, and the girls all ran to the business owner first AND the business owner called the police? Yea, I'm not going to the house at that point.

For what it's worth, I did say fuck it 45-60 minutes after the police refused to show up, called the police and said, "hey, if you're not going to send someone over, I'll just go over and handle it" and they were like, "absolutely do NOT do that".

Okay, well... not gonna disobey that, potentially have shit go down, and then have the non-emergency call that I made played at the subsequent trial.

You know, it isn't totally outside the realm of possibility this kid really did take all the phones. If she is 8 and she is not allowed to have a phone, I could see a scenario where a jealous kid from a messed up family will grab all the other kids phones just so they don't have any too. Not the most likely scenario, but I've seen some terror children that are capable of stuff like that. The dad would have to be a complete moron to think he was walking away with 8 phones that are all very likely tracked to do it himself. But there are plenty of morons out there.

My opinion is you handled it exactly right, and set a good example for your kid. Especially once the cops said don't, yeah, you do anything at that point, enjoy your jail cell lol.

I'll admit, like you, if it was just my kids, once the phone pinged I'd have driven over there to get it and been... a little less than cordial and friendly.

I'd like to think once I knew multiple were missing I'd have handled it like you, but I'm (obvs) a hothead. There's a solid 50% chance @Rhino78 would have been posting me in his new "Justified" thread at that point.

So no, no pussy, just a smart dad handling a stupid situation as he should've imo.

That's essentially what the cop said and seemed to be how he justified not arresting the dad. (that, plus we said we didn't 'demand' an arrest... it was dealers choice)

The way the dad behaved (told the cop he panicked and hid one of the phones in a bag and stashed it on his property) is VERY sketchy and it led him to believe that he dad at least had an idea of what had happened... but.... why would you keep the other phones inside your house and only hide one of them? On the other hand, what 8 year old wakes up from sleep at 1030 PM and immediately points to all the other phones and has them collected/handed off to police in under 2 minutes? (dad probably knew?)

Arresting him and the daughter (at 10-10:30 PM on a school night) would have been a mess for the officer, I'm sure. He seemed pretty happy with the outcome, and he got to clock out 11 PM on the dot after handing me back my daughters phone. (he kept mentioning that his shift ended at 11 PM to me )

I dunno, it's one of those where maybe if we chose to drag it out the dad gets hit with a misdemeanor for being a fucking idiot and not doing what a normal person would do in that scenario and drive back to the facility and return the phone you for sure know your daughter stole... but, I don't know that anyone would be able to prove that he was the one who took all the phones and get a felony to stick.

Plus, it's Crook County and it ended up involving a 'no speakie Ingles good' single dad of an 8 year old... it'd have been a miracle for him to get charged in the first place.

Not gonna lie... I read the cards top to bottom and when I got to Kenny I was 100% ready for it to say Florian.

(I'll still be watching, I'm always in for a good old fashioned shitshow)
