As far as my opinion? I'm good with him spending a whole lot of time behind bars, but, this is definitely an evolving area of the judicial and law enforcement systems and I find it odd that the companies that are making the software/apps that allow people like this scumbag to do this without any real safeguards to prevent it aren't facing more pushback/legal issues?

Prosecutors allege between Nov. 13, 2025, and May 17, 2026, Batterman used artificial intelligence to produce sexually explicit images and videos of minors under the ages of 13 and 18.​


A west suburban man has been charged with dozens of counts related to using artificial intelligence to create child sexual abuse material, including altering images of real children into sexually explicit images and videos, authorities said.

Jeremy Batterman, 52, of Campton Township, was charged with the following:

Production of child sexual abuse material, Class X felony -15 counts

Production of child sexual abuse material, Class 1 felony - 5 counts

Production of child sexual abuse material, Class 3 felony - 6 counts

Production of child sexual abuse material, Class 2 felony - 14 counts

Obscene depiction of a purported child, Class 2 felony - 4 counts

Prosecutors allege between Nov. 13, 2025, and May 17, 2026, Batterman used artificial intelligence to produce sexually explicit images and videos of minors under the ages of 13 and 18. Batterman allegedly used AI to alter images of real children and allegedly created entirely AI-generated child sexual abuse material.

Authorities were alerted to Batterman after a tip was received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Charges were filed following a three-month investigation, and Batterman was taken into custody by the Kane County Sheriff's Office on Aug. 13.

The investigation was conducted by the Kane County Child Exploitation Unit and the St. Charles Police Department.

Batterman appeared in court Aug. 14 for a pretrial detention hearing, where a judge ordered him detained pretrial.

His next court date is set for Thursday.

Might be the same case but I read one where it was her step-dad and he used her image from when she was 11...1000s of images/videos of her. FUKED UP!

That dude definitely needs the woodchipper.

I don't think that was the case here (from what others are saying it was random kids and young women, not family), but more details should be released on Thursday at the arraignment.

I have no problem with that for the case you referenced.


Bigger picture, I do feel like law enforcement and the courts are woefully behind the curve when it comes to AI and what it is currently capable of doing and how it brushes up against/routinely crosses legal thresholds.

I'm glad the guy was arrested, but I find the 44 felonies to be bizarre.

It's also getting weird with how prosecutors are pursuing justice in cases where AI was used to uncover a pattern of criminality over a long period of time.

With the adoption of Flock cameras are we going to start seeing people get 40+ speeding tickets for a drive to work? If you pass by 40+ different cameras that all clock you at 7+ over the limit, will they just tally them all up and hit you with single offenses for repeated incidences of the same violation?

If it takes 3 months to collect the data, would you get hundreds, possibly thousands, of violations?

I'm not saying that to defend the guy in the previous story in any way. I have no concerns about getting hit with 40+ felonies because I'm not, and would never, do what he was accused of doing.

I do have concerns about the legal system as a whole though, especially when it comes to utilizing AI/recognition and applying it to violations over a period of time. At some point is AI going to get so good that it can comb thru prior tax (or any other type of) records and retroactively apply penalties?

Yeah, that seemed a weird conclusion to jump to. Police officers commit suicide at a significantly higher rate than the general public, and sometimes suicides inspire other suicides. Add to that the increased pressures on law enforcement over the past decade and this isn't really surprising so much as simply tragic.

not really.

"earthquake triggered an avalanche (of mud I suppose) which triggered a flash flood."

in looking it up they've had monsoon weather for the past few days , heavy rain and winds, which has created ongoing flash floods. then they had an earthquake that triggered mudslides that likely mixed with flood water and crossed the border into china.

Basically what happened here during the Biden Administration.
