France orders localized curfews as nationwide riots trigger security crackdown

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu moves to contain widespread violence after protests over rising living costs turn into riots, leaving public buildings burned and thousands arrested; Lille's mayor opposes a curfew as other cities impose restrictions

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu ordered regional authorities Monday to introduce localized curfews following a weekend of widespread rioting, looting and violent clashes with police across the country, as the government struggled to restore order after mass demonstrations over rising living costs and education funding.

Speaking after an emergency government meeting, Lecornu said the restrictions would be targeted at specific neighborhoods rather than entire cities, particularly in areas where businesses and public buildings had come under attack. He did not rule out declaring a state of emergency if the unrest continued, but said limited curfews were more appropriate for the time being.

Not at all. Very, very real. That video is totally worth watching. Popo Medic makes good stuff. Koreatown fared the best out of the looted neighborhoods.
Those fools made it very clear who was in charge.

French PM: Curfew to be imposed tonight 'in places where situation requires'

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said that the partial curfew imposed on several cities in the country "helped maintain calm during the night." He added that "this evening, a decision will be made on imposing a curfew in places where the situation requires it. These decisions will be made on the ground in coordination with city mayors." Last night, a partial curfew was declared in several French cities, including Paris, Nice and Lyon, due to concerns about a possible resumption of the riots and disturbances that occurred over the weekend.
