NBA announces punishments for LA Clippers after Kawhi probe

The NBA on Wednesday announced severe punishments for the LA Clippers -- including the loss of five future first-round picks and a fine of $30 million -- for violating salary cap circumvention rules when they signed star Kawhi Leonard in 2022.

In a statement, the NBA said a near-yearlong investigation "found a pattern of misconduct and multiple significant rules violations by the Clippers organization, a prior offender of the salary cap circumvention rules."

The punishments, as announced by the league, include:

• The forfeiture of five first-round draft picks, one each in the 2029, 2030, 2031, 2032 and 2033 NBA drafts.

• A fine of $30 million.

• Owner Steve Ballmer is suspended from all league and team activities for one year.

• President of business operations Gillian Zucker is suspended without pay for one year.

• President of basketball operations Lawrence Frank is suspended without pay for six months.

• Leonard must pay the league $700,000.

All penalties are binding, the league and the players' union said.

This ESPN "report" certainly didn't age well, lol:

You know who sucks? The Cavs suck. I feel like every single Cavs game I watch is the same. They come out and play great in the first half and build a 30 point lead. Then shit the bed coming out after half time and blow the enormous lead. I only really watch them when they play the Knicks or are in the playoffs tho... but those are big games! And they always do this. Last night they played the Sixers and did it again. They choke in big games all the time. One of my least favorite NBA teams. And yet somehow that team wins 50+ games a year.

I was at a private poker game last night, and a dude there had a large bet on the Cavs. When they were up 29, he was strutting around the room like a peacock. Suffice it to say, he did not have a good night after that, lol. He was annoying as hell, too, so I enjoyed a bit of schadenfreude.

I would never bet on that team. That's a stupid bet anyway against the Sixers. That team is such an unknown right now, why risk it? Sure, they could be a disaster or they could be the best team ever. That is just a hater bet lol

He's a huge Cleveland sports fan. I assume he's used to losing all such bets, lol.

Donovan Mitchell and James harden lack the ability to dig deep and carry a team when it matters. Until they can get that done the Cavs will be chokers.

LMAO. I went to Sonnen vs Silva 1 with buddy who's a huge gambler. He had big money on Chael (likely $5k but he never disclosed the amount). Same story - puffed up and strutting for 4 rounds. Quiet as a mouse on the way home.

Yeah, I couldn't believe they resigned him. Have teams not watched his entire career?? Is he finally going to get clutch at 40?

I've at least seen Mitchell have a few of those moments in his career, or at least moments where he was relatively clutch and the team stiiiill blew it.

one of these years he will forego the nightly strip club visits and get it done.

or not.

And this is why Jim Dolan is a huge piece of shit. He did a phishing scam on his own Knicks employees to avoid giving them their championship rings. What a bastard. And the coaches got empty boxes on ring night.

However I do have to say the ring itself is pretty incredible. It is huge and in the center of it, MSG is hidden and when you spin the top, MSG rises up from inside the ring. Pretty crazy. Can only imagine what they cost.
