Yeah, moving the goalposts. And have been this entire time, since now you're using criteria other than statistical accolades (I didn't know NBA writers choice was an award, wow).
But since you're juicing stats to add to Jordans...
- Russell didn't win Rookie of the Year, because he was playing for the US in the Olympics (and winning his gold medal), so we'll count that for him too.
- Same for why he didn't go 13/13 on All Star selections. He missed his rookie year because he was playing for the US in the Olympics and only played in 48 games. So well say the same for Russell.
- I already mentioned the Hall of Fame for both, and Russell is a 2x HoF. Jordan ain't getting in again for being an owner, that's for sure.
- Cant use fastest to 32K point because you discount that same argument for LeBron getting to 40k. Gotta be consistent.
-Russell also has an all star game MVP. I personally don't think an all-star game counts for much of anything, but hey this is your shitty argument...
-Averaged 22.5 rebounds per game
-Averaged 24.5 rebounds per game in the playoffs.
So you discount 5 more championships because Jordan simply scored more and some dork writers agree he's #1. And then you claim it's "not even close." Except it is by every statistical definition and category. Like I said earlier.
So, find a problem with that instead of admitting that your original premise was flawed and incomplete, and era needs to be factored in as well :)
When did I discount lebron's 40k points? I said it's a longevity stat and
nobody is better at bron than that.
BUT FASTEST to something?
EVERYONE listed in the NBA's top 7 scorers, has played 20+ years, EXCEPT Jordan, who played 15? (Essentially 13, but whatever), yeah.. that's more impressive, to do something EVERYONE else is trying to do, but it takes you FAR less time. They have 7 more years to score more points, while Jordan needed 13 to do his.. Yes that's better. That's not moving the goal posts, that's a literal fact.
Literally the scoring leaders list all time NBA,
1- Lebron 40K+ Points, 24 years
2. Kareem, 38k, 20 years
3. Karl Malone, 36k (basically 37k it was 36928, BUT not 37k), 21 years
4. Kobe Bryant, 33k, 20 years
5. Kevin Durant, 32k, 19 years
6. Michael Jordan, 32k 15 years
7. Dirk, 31k, 21 years
8.
Wilt, 31k, 14 years
9. Harden, 29k, 18 years
10. Shaq, 28k points, 19 years
That 15 years 32k is not more impressive? Look at the time it took EVERYONE else, Jordan and Wilt, the 2 with the highest PPG in history (jordan #1 and wilt #2 scoring), why would I not emphasize the shorter with far better stat?
Russell not playing and winning in the olympics and not winning rookie of the year, was a choice, so no we can't 'give him that win' because we have no idea what he would've done... Being injured while selected, is different than straight up NOT playing. Jordan won a championship, finals mvp and a gold medal the same 2 years he won them.
Notice I didn't mention Jordan would have 8 rings, if not for retiring for 2 years during that time period.. I'm not.. because he
didn't play.. we have NO idea how that would've turned out, and Hakeem was owning the world at that time.
"So you discount 5 more championships because Jordan simply scored more and some dork writers agree he's #1".
No I've never discounted it, I told you the issue with the championships russell got, and why it wasn't included in my original posts, and why I focused on other players, I've said it several times.. not just his era (My original post, I stated there's few that can claim to being the best during their time which is era, and even less that can lay claim to goat status), Russell... LOST! Russell had the same 8 to 14 teams to play, and was facing the same few teams in the finals.. and still LOST! That's the argument, 100% win ratio, while being the best player not only on his team, but the league itself, with better stats and achievements are FAR BETTER that 11-1. 91% is NOT 100%. Especially like I said.. The level of competition. Royce gracie is not going and should not be included with the Goat List.. Because of... HIS COMPETITION!
There's no flaw, I've said this several times. I also stated about the rebounds and blocks, they're cool, I said Defense wise, the 5 best players and who can lay claim to that. I didn't ask for the best defensive player. Bill NEVER led the league in scoring, so he was NEVER the top scorer, so when it came to WINNING, you weren't putting the ball in his hands to DO IT. You put his big ass under the net (Since there was no rule where he couldn't just stand under it defensively, until 01, because Shaq did what Russell did, stand under, block shots, grab rebounds)
"NBA writers choice was an award"
selection to top 75 anniversary was added by the NBA a few years back.
Also this is the NBA's website
Few in NBA history can match the accolades, awards and championships Michael Jordan amassed in his days with the Bulls.
www.nba.com
They say it THEMSELVES.
""By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time. Although, a summary of his basketball career and influence on the game inevitably fails to do it justice, as a phenomenal athlete with a unique combination of fundamental soundness, grace, speed, power, artistry, improvisational ability and an unquenchable competitive desire, Jordan single-handedly redefined the NBA superstar.
Even contemporaneous superstars recognized the unparalleled position of Jordan. Magic Johnson said, “There’s Michael Jordan and then there is the rest of us.” Larry Bird, following a playoff game where Jordan dropped 63 points on the Boston Celtics in just his second season, appraisal of the young player was: “God disguised as Michael Jordan.”"
THAT IS THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE NBA! YES IT MATTERS WHAT IS STATED!
I'll even add to it, here is Russell's profile
https://www.nba.com/news/history-nba-legend-bill-russell
They said
""His many individual accolades were well deserved, but they were only products of Russell’s philosophy of team play. His greatest accomplishment was bringing the storied Celtics 11 championships in his 13 seasons.
Until the ascent of Michael Jordan in the 1980s, Russell was acclaimed by many as the greatest player in the history of the NBA.""
Until when? What did the NBA themselves say? until when? Until Jordan? It says Jordan right.
Hold up, let me read it again
"Until the ascent of Micahel Jordan in the 1980's (Not even his prime time, which was the 90's), Russell was acclaimed by many as the greatest player in the history of the nba."
Hmmmm
