Anderson Silva was recently interviewed by Brazilian website GloboEsporte.com, and said he is on a break from fighting, and will not be calling out GSP at UFC 154.
“I am on vacation from fighting," said Silva. "I think I will return only in the end of the next year. I have personal projects ongoing. Tomorrow I’m embarking to Los Angeles to attend the arrangements of the academy we’re setting up there."
“I think this is the time for me to let my life in order. Being always worried and working makes me set my personal life aside. Now I want to work on that aspect.”
“I will go to Los Angeles and then I will go to Canada for UFC 154. I’m going to stay there to film an action movie that me and Lyoto will participate in [with Steven Seagal]. But it is not my character to step in there and call somebody out. So I think this won’t happen. I fact I don’t just think, I am sure!”
“My focus is on my personal projects and on the fight versus Georges St-Pierre. If the UFC wants to make an ínterim bout while I am away, it is up to them. I don’t know if it will have any meaning but they can do whatever they want. I am in a comfort zone, so I am not concerned about it."
Anderson also talked about the idea of ??creating a ranking system for MMA, and voiced support for other strong MMA organizations worldwide.
"I think it would be viable if we had other organizations with the strength that the UFC has. That can happen in the future."
When asked what he thinks of female fighters in the UFC, the Spider joked, but was favorable to the idea.
"I think it's cool, even though I think that female MMA is not a very feminine thing. But we have to understand that girls also have to have opportunities, and I think the UFC is cool to open this space, because women dominate the world."

I'm a fan, but I don't agree with this..A whole year out when you're fully fit?..Nah he should fight at least twice,Gsp,bones would be perfect,but gsp and Weidman or Bisping would be better..I know he's getting on but he's becoming a bit of a diva and I don't like this about him,it'll never ever stop me being a fan for life,but come on Ando face Bones, we all want to see it rather than George..

That's ridiculous there are plenty of people he could fight before than. GSP, if he wins on Saturday, Weidman, if he beats Boetsch, or Bisping, if he beats Belfort. I highly doubt that he will end up sitting out until the end of 2013, uncle Dana won't have it.

mainly this...........Silva knows he holds all the power.
I chalk just about all the crazy stuff he has done since before the second Sonnen fight to nothing but contract renegotiating.
as a fan I will attest that if he is healthy and hasn't defended the MW belt in like 18 months since his last, he should be stripped. I would say 12 months but I will give him an extra 6 months if and only if he fights GSP.

So you're 37 years old and you've only got X amount of fights left in you, and you've stated you want only the biggest fights....so you're going to take an entire year off instead of fighting one of the exact superfights you've been claiming you want?
I agree with Galgorian, I think it's a ploy to get Dana to throw a ton of money at him to fight GSP.

I could understand the hardball negotiation tactics if the UFC were looking to set him up against Bones, since it's a fight he doesn't want and carries greater risks, but this is a fight he handpicked, favours him and where he's going to make more money than he usually would.
I think in part Dana creates these problems when he goes in front of the media and starts gushing over dream matchups that he guarantees will happen. He essentially hands all leverage over to the fighters and their managers.

Silvas been annoying the last few years but when it comes down to it he does fight so its kinda like with how fedor was. Dont listen to the gossip and just wait for when he fights because we all know he will.

He says he isn't calling Georges out, but he also said:
"My focus is on my personal projects and the fight versus Georges St. Pierre."
So either there are some translation issues here, or the Silva-GSP fight has already been agreed to depending on the outcome of the Condit fight.

I honestly cant see Silva being out until the end of 2013 unless injured, Dana wont have none of it.
