Business News (Jobs, Stocks, Bitcoin)

9/10 times when they do that, "kids in (insert profession) are making $150,000+ entry level!" nonsense they are either:

1) Picking the top 1-5% of people in the profession (true outliers)

2) Factoring in things like health insurance and time off and making a cash conversion that they employee doesn't see in their take home.

I remember one year my company didn't give raises and senior management tried to spin it that we all got raises because the company was paying more for health insurance premiums. I guess that's technically true, but I'm not seeing it in my take home.

Unions do that shit all the time.

The old, "we negotiated a package that will see our lowest paid workers earning $80,000 a year!". Then you look into it and you realize they are making $45,000 a year... the other $35,000 is health care, investment in training programs, union dues and all other kinds of mandatory deductions that the employee won't see in their take home.

TBF Union tradesmen make A LOT. But they don't work all the time. But when a big job comes along (like say a big building or a government overwatch data center they make BANK for while that project is on. Of course, like the oil fields, none of them save it and blow it all figuring that the good times will never end.......................

Good point, and that's another one they will do.

"He runs a business where he installs TV mounts for $200, and he says he's capable of installing up to 10 a day. He's making $14,000 a week!"

No... while it it might average 30 minutes a job and you might be able to knock out 10 in a day, there's no way you're finding 10 people every day who are going to pay you $200 to perform a one-time job that takes 30 minutes to do.

It also excludes travel from client to client and the cost of parts.

This, 100%. Oh look i made $200 for 30 minutes of work. 1hour drive to get there (plus truck, which isn't free), an hour drive back, $50 in parts, 30 minute trip to the hardware store to get the one damn part that isn't on the truck, a month to get paid (80% of the time)

yeah, you made $200 gross for 4 hours of work and about $100 worth of costs (parts, truck, insurance, etc).

Nobody and I mean nobody seems to understand the difference between Gross and Net. (or revenue and profit)

Musk was supposed to attend a conference that my company was speaking and presenting at but couldn't make the trip so gave a live speech via zoom instead, say what you will about him but not every billionaire is willing to do that in the middle of the night to people from another country rather than send something pre-recorded

Nigeria
Crypto

I rest my case.
