Chris Leben vs. Brian Stann slated for UFC 125 New Years Eve

A middleweight bout between Chris Leben (21-6 MMA, 11-5 UFC) and former WEC champion Briann Stann (9-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) has been targeted for the Jan. 1 UFC 125 card.
Sources close to the event today alerted MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) of the tentative plans, though bout agreements have not been signed.
Although not officially announced, UFC 125 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and airs on pay-per-view.
If finalized the fight likely will be part of the televised main card.
Leben, who remarkably makes his 17th consecutive UFC appearance, has never seen his stock higher in the 185-pound division. He's currently riding a three-fight win streak with a decision win over Jay Silva at UFC Fight Night 20, a TKO victory over Aaron Simpson at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale ("Knockout of the Night" bonus), and a submission win over Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 116 ("Fight of the Night" honors). The Simpson and Akiyama wins came within 14 days of each other.
Leben recently has been campaigning for a fight with Wanderlei Silva, whom he also wants to coach against on "The Ultimate Fighter 13" in early 2011. Production normally begins in mid-January, so a "TUF" gig theoretically is possible if he beats Stann.
Of course, Stann is on a solid run of his. He's won three of his past four fights (all in the UFC) with decision victories over Steven Cantwell and Rodney Wallace and a recent submission win over Mike Massenzio at UFC on Versus 2 that won him "Fight of the Night" honors. The lone loss came to highly touted NCAA Division I national wrestling champion Phil Davis, who was unable to finish Stann and settled for a decision win.
The Greg Jackson-trained fighter, former Marine, war veteran and Silver Star winner recently released a book about his MMA and military exploits entitled "Heart for the Fight." It earned a positive review from MMAjunkie.com.

Oh man. Bad fight for Stann. Stann is a great guy, but he'll get worked on the feet by Leben, and his wrestling isn't solid enough to be effective. Aaron Simpson is a much better wrestler and had trouble taking leben down and staying on top of him. Leben by KO in the 2nd round.

i hope Leben wins and them we might have a Leben vs Wanderlei TUF 13 season, i hope this TUF stop since there are not interesting anymore and just put on hold the figthers that take the coaching job but if they are going to continue to do it well wanderlei vs Leben will be a very interesting season

I see this fight as a filler until Wandy is healthy again. That's it... Leben likes to fight and doesn't want to wait until March or April to do so. Another exciting win for the crippler.

I agree, as much as it seems like a lose-lose fight for Leben, he always brings it whether he wins or loses.

i think its simple. as stacked as the mw division is there are no opponents left for leben until wand is healthy. think about it. every noteable mw is booked right except stann. and stann's not that bad. dont get me wrong, i think this is an easy W for wandy right now, but stann is 3-4 lately cept for davis, and is no slouch. the dude comes to fight. i honestly think stann was the only reasonable fight or leben at this point in time. i would have rather seen leben slug it out with someone like munoz though, and they probably could have booked that.

mw division has about 10 more fighters than the lhw division and about 20 more fighters than the hw division. it has about as many as the lw and ww division. hasn't always been that way but it is now.

Wandi has lost 5 of his last 7 and is currently riding a 1 fight win streak. How is his name anywhere near the title picture?
As for Leban, he has to beat better competition than Stann, Aaron Simpson and Akiyama to get his name mentioned as well.
I think you're confusing entertaining fighters with top flight, deserve a title shot, type of fighters...

NO if Anderson would of dominated Sonnen everyone would say its not stacked.....stack means when there is a bunch of great fighters. Like LHW it changes hands ever fight it seems....now that division is stack.
Anderson's opponents for the MW title have been Sonnen, Maia, Leites, Cote...you call that stacked???
Vitor is fighting for the title next...........he hasnt even had a MW fight yet in UFC and why do they give him the title shot instead of other fighters??? cause the division sucks. Is not stacked man, Im sorry to disappoint you. I really doubt Anderson would have dominated LHW the way he dominated MW....because the division has been so weak.
Marquardt won one fight after completely getting his *** kick and now he is fighting for a title shot.......you call that stacked??

cause the division sucks.........Wandy will be back sometime in March or April at that time Anderson/Vitor should be fighting the winner of Okami/Marquardt so we talking about Wandy vs Leben happening around March and if they fight for the title it would be sometime late summer 2011, is there any other fighter that deserves the title shot before them?? and yes entertainment involves getting a title shot, why do you think Fitch hasnt got one?
