I only watch MMA and mostly UFC, but once Bellator gets on Spike I'll probably start watching them too.
I used to follow hockey (Calgary Flames) and baseball (Toronto Blue Jays), but once I started watching MMA all other sports seemed rather boring. I don't even know who won the last Stanley Cup or World Series. I sometimes catch the highlights on TV, but I don't go out of my way to look for them.

The only sport I follow closely is MMA. Am I alone here?
And by "closely" I mean you can name at least 20 competitors and their skill sets.

Nope, I only follow MMA. I was actually slightly depressed for a while because I used to be a gigantic NFL fan, but I stopped after I started to get the impression the winners were not always determined by fair contest. I'll spare yall my conspiracy theories but I just was no longer interested in watching it and that bummed me out.
But not I really don't see a point in watching any other sport.
I believe Joe Rogan said it best in one of his podcasts, which is that basically any sport is a physical contest to see who is dominant, which in and of itself is a proxy for an actual fight, and in that respect, MMA is the "purest" sport because it boils that contest down the closest to its bare essentials, casting aside end zones, goals, etc.
I realize that there are other reasons to watch different sports (especially team aspects), but I found that to be a very interesting viewpoint.
