lol pardon? Sorry did he not beat Carlos Condit pretty easily in his first two rounds back? Ring rust isn't a cardio issue that affects you in the later rounds. Ring rust would have showed up early in the first or second where GSP should have come out flat and his timing was off...instead it was the rounds that GSP dominated Carlos everywhere and looked better/more aggressive than he had in previous fights.

In the first round against Wineland Barao had some trouble with him footwork, but with Cruz injuries I don't see him footwork being the same. If it is he has a great chance to win

That is definitely the key to the fight, the footwork of Cruz. Not some ring rust excuse.

Barao has the reach advantage and shown the capable tools that Cruz hasn't been faced with yet. I believe. Although Barao has been in trouble with the McDonald fight.

This will be a tough fight, but i will put my money on Cruz. I just think he is too techniqual for Barao.

Yeah he was walking Condit down that first round.

Let's all pretend Cruz comes back looking the same as he did before. You guys are all seeing Cruz as coming back looking like s---. I'm guarantee he won't look at his best but it'll definitely be competitive.

Their opinions are that Dominick is coming off an injured knee facing Aldo's teammate, so it's gonna be leg kicks galore.
Meaning if they were actual coaches/experts...they would be the most predictable game-planners in the sport ha

Better poll would be: if Cruz can't fight until 169, should his belt be stripped of him?

I'll admit I can't remember that fight minute by minute but from what I remember GSP got Condit down and kept him there by doing just enough. Condit even landing elbows from the bottom and cutting GSP. That fight only got going when Condit kicked him in the head.
Having ring rust doesn't turn you into a bad fighter, things just don't run as smooth as usual.
I just don't see Cruz coming into the octagon and putting in the same performances as before his injury. His game plan is very hard to execute and will take him a few fights to get back into the swing of things IMO
It will still be a helluva fight but I see Barão winning

I fully expect Barao to win this. However if Cruz were to pull this out that would be incredibly demoralizing for Barao with such a long layoff for Cruz. Also it would greatly diminish his run as the interim champ as it would then be viewed as an impressive run to be the number one contender instead of an impressive line of title defenses. Certainly shifts the pressure for this fight more onto Barao. In spite of all of that still picking Barao to win a UD.

i'll believe cruz will fight when i actually see him in the octagon, dude has been so injury prone. probably will get injured again preparing for this fight. his best bet is to relinquish the belt and get an easier match coming back from the long lay off.

Will Ring Rust Be A Problem for Dominick Cruz?
Published on Nov 1, 2013
By the time Dominick Cruz returns to fight Renan Barao it will have been 2 years and 4 months since his last fight. Dominick talked about the possibility of Ring Rust on Inside MMA.

Cruz has a style that's really tough to beat. He's also a very smart athlete, and has had plenty of time to think of how he
would
fight Barao. My initial reaction to this match-up was to give it to Barao, but I'd only give him a slight edge.

Cruz has the style to beat Barao. Wineland won the first round using effective footwork and movement, which Cruz has some of the best of in all of mma, but will it be the same after 2 surgeries on his leg? If yes he can outpoint Barao, if no he loses

Cruz can 100% beat Barao. His style matches up very well against the way Barao chooses to fight. Barao chooses not to counter or move his head much, and instead rathers to get out of range and cover up before feinting and returning fire when his opponent retreats. This will make Cruz's EXCELLENT use of angles and footwork to pick Barao apart. He just needs to limit making mistakes when coming at barao. A split second can give barao the opportunity to take cruz's head off.

The big problem for Cruz is how effective will his movement be coming off 2 surgeries?

Which is the x-factor of this fight. I have hope though. I love the way Cruz fights. His use of angles, footwork, and boxing are so fun to watch.

Agree, I don't understand why people think he's so boring. He's one of my favorite fighters to watch, as is Barao. I'm really really excited for this fight
