Frank Mir Forced Out Of Strikeforce Fight With Daniel Cormier Due To Injury
late Tuesday night, news broke via @sportsrage, who is the host of MMA Meltdown on The Fight Network, that former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir has suffered an injury that has forced him out of his November 3rd fight with Strikeforce grand prix champion Daniel Cormier.
This will certainly leave ZUFFA/UFC scrambling to get a new opponent for the fast rising star Cormier. The injury has not been revealed at this time. We will monitor any more news on this subject tonight/early morning and try to provide you with more information.
2012 has not been kind to the UFC in regards to injuries. Many fighters in main and co-main events have suffered injuries that have dramatically changed an entire fight card.
Earlier this month, the UFC had to cancel an event for the first time in their 12 year ownership (ZUFFA) of the organization.

Re: Frank Mir Out Of His Strikeforce Fight With Daniel Cormi
He didn't want to get knocked out again. I don't blame him. Just kidding.
On a serious note I can give Frank Mir a pass because he doesn't get injured often. First time injured since 09 if I'm correct.

Re: Frank Mir Out Of His Strikeforce Fight With Daniel Cormi
I would say scrap the Jones/Belfort fight and go straight for the Cormier/Jones fight but we all know even on no notice Cormier would sign to the fight, but Jones wouldn't and would wait for someone much more hand picked to fight.
Frank Mir gets a pass also to do with the fact that you can't lose to Lesnar, Carwin, Dos Santos and still get title fights you're gonna lose anyways.

+1
It has gotten so bad that I seriously just expect any fight made these days to fall apart.

Sources indicated to MMAjunkie.com that a knee injury is to blame for Mir's withdrawal.

Damnit and I have tickets for this. Maybe Cormier vs Werdum.

I would like to see Mark Hunt fight Cormier.

Re: Frank Mir Out Of His Strikeforce Fight With Daniel Cormi
Junior Dos Santos is fighting Cain in December
Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin are committed to TUF
Overeem in on suspension
Big Nog is fighting in Brazil
Cormier has already defeated Big Foot Silva
Travis Browne is booked to fight Big Foot.
Stefan Struve is slated to fight Stipe Miocic.
They are going to want someone with atleast some what of a name, so I think that leaves the following as possible replacements:
Fabricio Werdum
Chieck Kongo
Mark Hunt
Tim Sylvia

Re: Frank Mir Out Of His Strikeforce Fight With Daniel Cormi
Isn't Mark Hunt out for the rest of the year due to surgery?
I really hope it isn't Werdum. He lost the first round of the tournament, why should he get first crack at the winner?

Man this sucks. Half 2 of 2012 is garbage for MMA. Hopefully this means that 2013 will be awesome. (time to steer clear from all this Vada, Wada, USada stuff, I think it's bringing bad luck).

Re: Frank Mir Out Of His Strikeforce Fight With Daniel Cormi
I'm a Mir fan, so I was really looking forward to this fight (respect for DC too, just haven't seen many of his fights).
replacement will be hard as I see most of the UFC roster with the BJ Penn attitude, they don't want to fight in the smaller show. But if we did have to choose:
Werdum - same complex as Fedor, was part of the tournament but lost. High profile but doesn't make sense (but most likely choice as he hasn't been booked since 147).
Kongo - not as high profile, but a fighter that's been around the block.
Hunt - hype aside, same as Kongo (anyone know his injury recovery timeline?)
Sylvia - the beef with Dana will ensure they never let him back in to the Zuffa fold, which is kinda sucky. That being said I was all for giving Sylvia a second chance until his showing against Arlovski.
Sapp - I doubt they'd pay him enough to not turtle
Jones - would DC be able to lose the weight in time? given everything that's he's said in regard to weight cutting, I would have thought it would be a long process for him. (assuming LHW, they could make it Jones's HW debut, I still like this fight tho)

Cormier vs Werdum would be just as good on paper.

Because it's a business and they need to make money.

Really? Jones, Silva and GSP are all fighting. Flyweight inaugural title fight, at least five non-PPV UFC events, Henderson vs. Diaz for LW title with Shogun and B.J. on the same card (free, BTW), Junior vs. Cain II, SF LW title on Showtime. Don't get so down on what isn't happening, still plenty to look forward to.
