Considering there is no rush to jump straight into the rubber match how far is he away from getting another crack at the belt?

Depends on Werdum and AO
should only be 1 fight but timing doesn't and probably won't work out

I think it should be 2 but who can he fight that he hasn't beat already?
Mir, Nelson and Carwin are all gone as he has already beat those guys. Maybe Duffee, Browne, Bigfoot/Overeem loser or Miocic?

1 maybe 2. As mentioned above it depends on Reem and Werdum. If Bigfoot pulls off the upset would they make Hunt vs Struve a #1 contender fight? If Nog beats Werdum does he get a rematch against Cain with wins over Herman and Werdum? How far away is Roy if upsets happen?
But if everything goes chalk if expect
Cain vs Reem
Vs Werdum
Vs Winner of JDS VS Hunt/Struve
With Roy, Barnett, Mir, DC and other wildcards a out there

There's absolutely no reason he shouldn't get a shot after 1 win. Cain never defended the belt yet got another shot after 1 win over a guy coming off a loss
JDS was 9-0 in the UFC and at least defended the belt once (which Cain didn't do) so for him to have to get multiple wins when Cain only had to get 1 would be complete BS. Not that the UFC isn't above pulling unfair BS lately regarding title shots.

The manner in which Cain lost left some doubt as to whether it was luck or Cain was injured as he said. The way Cain won left no stone unturned. Complete domination.

Does everyone forget that JDS went into that fight with a torn meniscus? I'm so sick of hearing the "Cain was injured" thing. So was JDS.

If you where injured going into a fight
i'd say ud be neverous thinking should I or shouldnt I go through with this fight even if I am headlining one of the most important fights ,with the first fight ever on FOX
so you go in and fight and KO the guy in less than 2 minutes.Less pain involed and your meniscus wont be hurt more than it is.
best secnario that could happen under the circumstances
would you be moaning that you where injured after you won the UFC HW belt ?
I highly highly doubt it.

Um ok? So because JDS chose not to b---- about it means that Cain has an excuse because he was injured but JDS doesn't?

I think it would probably depend on who he gets matched up with 1st....but for me I would say 2 wins at most

why would any complain that they where injured if they scored a ko in the first two minutes of the first round?

They could make the trilogy fight tomorrow and I would be pretty pumped. I mean come on he beat the guy in a minute the first time out, to believe now that he has no chance or doesn't deserve a rematch is ludicrous.

You are completely missing my point. I'm not trying to say JDS should have complained about the injury. I'm trying to point out that you can't dismiss the first fight by saying "Cain was injured" because JDS was injured too.

They were both injured. The fight result
could
have been affected, regardless it could have been a lucky punch also, landed behind the ear, JDS was not aiming there I guarantee you, we didn't really get a lot of our questions answered that night. There also was no other challengers for JDS at this time, timing suited both Cain and JDS.
Neither fighter was injured before this fight and Cain whooped him, we do know that.

It will probably take more than one fight. Cain's next two fights will most likely be Overeem and Werdum if they win their upcoming fights. If they somehow lose, JDS might get his rematch sooner. There really aren't that many HW's that have made their case for a shot outside of those two.
Maybe JDS's loss will lead to the Mark Hunt match that everyone wanted so badly, but wasn't going to happen with JDS holding the title.
I always thought that JDS got lucky that his two toughest tests, Carwin then Cain, were coming off long, injury layoffs. That's the main reason why I didn't mind Cain getting a rematch so soon after losing the title. That wasn't Cain at his best. JDS, on the other hand, lost his title while being healthy and competing regularly.

I say give him Werdum in a rematch provided he gets pasted Nogueira. The winner of that should be able to fight Velasquez and Overeem (if he beats Silva).

There's no clear-cut answer. If Overeem beats Bigfoot, then he'll get the next title shot in May/June-ish. Then there's Werdum fighting Big Nog in june, plus Daniel Cormier who will probably have a top contenders' fight on the same card as Velasquez v Reem, so that he can serve as a potential injury replacement. JDS could be fighting again around the same time, or he could be out until late summer/fall. If he fights May/June-ish, he could take on Cormier for a shot. But then there's still Werdum, who could potentially get a title shot with a win over Big Nog. If JDS is out until late summer/fall, then there's both Cormier and Werdum who could be in front of him. If Cormier and Werdum both win their matches, then whichever of them doesn't get the title shot after Overeem could face JDS in his return fight. If Overeem, Cormier, or Werdum lose any of their fights, then that frees up the line for title shots for JDS to jump right back in. But if they all win, then it'll take JDS a few wins before he's back fighting for the title. And that's just those few guys.... There's always other guys who could skyrocket to contention quickly. Hunt v Struve winner being one, depending how that fight goes. Hell, even someone like Duffee could jump up the ranks quickly, if he steps in as an injury replacement one of these upcoming fight cards, and gets another finish, and books a quick turnaround from that (or quick turnaround now, and jumps in as injury replacement afterwards).
tl;dr There's just way too many variables to say whether it will take one, two, or even three wins before JDS gets another shot.
