Re: AFFLICTION FOLDS
Affliction folds MMA promotion, will sponsor UFC
Yahoo! Sports
After promoting two critically acclaimed but financially disastrous mixed martial arts cards, Affliction on Friday first canceled its pay-per-view card scheduled for Aug. 1 and then opted to get out of the promotional business, Yahoo! Sports has learned.
The company and the Ultimate Fighting Championship are expected to release a statement sometime on Friday in which it is announced that Affliction will cease operations as a promoter and that its clothing division will become a UFC sponsor.
Affliction had a card slated for Aug. 1 with a main event of Fedor Emelianenko, the No. 2 fighter in the Yahoo! Sports mixed martial arts rankings, against former UFC champion Josh Barnett at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
But Barnett tested positive for an anabolic steroid and on Tuesday was denied a license to fight by the California State Athletic Commission.
That left Affliction scrambling to fight a replacement for Emelianenko. With no viable alternatives – the best was former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort, who was already down to 195 pounds for a scheduled middleweight fight – Affliction early Friday opted to scrap the show.
Later in the day, Affliction came to terms on a deal in which it would quit promoting fight cards. However, the status of the fighter contracts belonging to Affliction is unknown.
They could revert to the UFC or they could become free agents, able to sign with the promoter of their choice.
Multiple sources had indicated to Yahoo! Sports that Affliction was on the verge of a deal with Strikeforce for some sort of merger, but that fell apart in the last 24-48 hours. That’s when talks began anew between White and Affliction. They had spoken earlier in July about such a scenario, but were unable to come to a deal.
SURE AS s---

If all the other fighters come to the UFC (Vitor, Yvel, etc) and Fedor still holds out, then he's gonna look like a douche. Not only that, but its gonna come across that he's scared to fight in the UFC. He essentially has NO EXCUSE not to fight in the UFC now. Cro Cop is back, Barnett is out, i mean who else is there to fight outside of the UFC? Overeem and Rogers? And i have a feeling Rogers will be in the UFC shortly as well.

Isnt' competition good? Wasn't that the war cry of the Affliction huggers the last year? So obviously now that Tapout and Affliction can compete on equal footing it's a good thing for the T-shirt industry.
MEMO: I don't actually believe that, I'm just playing devil's advocate here

i dont think they will care, tapout is close to a billion dollar company. affliction is well...not. plus its not like tap out is the only company that is sponcered. one more round, poker stars, all of these work together.. i do not see a problem with it. imo affliction will have a tuf time getting people not to sign with tapout after how they just made themselves look

Tapout and Afflication have really though, 2 different markets. Afflication is like a higher end brand, while Tapout would be considered the lower brand. But, the competition would be nice.
Then again, there are TONS of MMA clothing companies out there now. One More Round, Silver Star, Tapout, Afflicition.... yada yada yada.

Tapout doesn't run an online poker room. They directly compete with affliction in the apparel market. Afflicition MMA looks bad right now, but one thing Affliction has proven is they will sign a bigger check to keep fighters away from their competitors.

Re: HUGE NEWS FROM KEVIN IOLE
Every clothing company in the UFC is competing with all of the others, plus any other clothing company. I don't think Affliction will get the same treatment as Tapout, not with one of Tapout's founders in the hall of fame. Silver Star, Bad Boy, Warrior, Sprawl, Ecko Unlimited, and Deathclutch are still allowed by the UFC so Tapout is far from the only clothing company in the UFC.
I'm curious to see what else will happen.

Re: HUGE NEWS FROM KEVIN IOLE
The UFC will secure the fighters they want and find a reason to kick Affliction out as a sponsor again.

From Kevin Lole: http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news?slug=ki-mmamailbag072109&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
At the conclusion of UFC 99, I was tipped off that Cro Cop had told White sometime on the day of that fight card that he wasn’t signing the contract he’d verbally agreed to and was then signing with DREAM. Cro Cop, as is his custom, failed to attend the postfight news conference at UFC 99. He RARELY does interviews and almost never makes himself available to the media. When the news conference ended, I approached White to ask him. Neil M. Davidson, the sports editor of the Canadian Press, saw us and joined in the conversation. I asked White if the rumors I’d heard that Cro Cop was headed to DREAM were true. He replied that it was and that Cro Cop had told him earlier in the night, but he said he didn’t want to talk about it with Davidson or myself.
I knew Yahoo! Sports readers would have great interest, so I pushed until White provided details. When I returned to the U.S. from Germany, I read a USA Today.com report quoting a DREAM official confirming it had a deal with Filipovic, but I also read reports in which it stated Cro Cop was waffling. I contacted White to ask about the conflicting positions and he told me Filipovic told him, “The Japanese are expecting me.” And, indeed, at that time, DREAM had a match between Cro Cop and Mighty Mo listed on its Web site for its July 20 event. White went on to relay other details of the conversation which he asked me not to make public. But I subsequently answered a mailbag question about Filipovic’s denials and said Filipovic was trying to save face. He was receiving much heat for reneging on UFC. He made it clear he wants to run for political office again in Croatia and did not like the adverse publicity.
He met with UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta and agreed to accept the deal he had orginally agreed to over the telephone. I reported that as soon as I knew he’d actually signed the document.

Re: AFFLICTION FOLDS
i think the fighter from now defunc affliction will be intimidated into joining UFC, by which i mean the former UFC fighters. For Renato Sobral it may be a conditional agreement as he got into trouble by the NSAC and was fined for a prolonged submission hold in a UFC fight. As for Fedor, i think as soon as he learns of the this news when he lands in USA - he will be more agitated into making the move to UFC.
what is everyone else's opinion?

ABSO-F**KING-LUTELY!!
His management Team is Trapped now. They will seriously Tarnish Fedor's Legacy if they still continue to be DumbAsses and still Persist with their idiotic "Cross-promoting dream". Thats right, its just a dream,
after Pride screwed them the first time, UFC will never cross-promote with anybody else again!
