How is that a joke? Are you aware of how awful CM Punk is at MMA? Im not familiar with Jackson, but Mickey Gall finishes him in the first round.

So if Mickey Gall wins vs. Jackson then he will have tallied his record to 2-0 in MMA. If CM punk has a rating of 85/100 in the new UFC game then Gall is at the very least a 90.

CM Punk is awesome. Dude is living the dream, doing what he wants ... and putting his as* on the line in the meantime!
He's not fighting for a title or anything .... it's just a fun fight. UFC quality? $ wise it is...

So what? It's what he wants to do, and he's not afraid to take the chances. My dreams don't much revolve around money in and of itself, but if I was as rich as "Punk," I would only hope that I would spend my money and time simply doing things I want to do.

A couple things to keep in mind:
1. It's unlikely an AC would approve a Punk vs. Vetran fight. They are supposed to ensure that skill levels are roughly equal. I think Brock's sheer physicality convinced them that Mir was unlikely to seriously hurt him. Not sure Punk would get the same benefit of the doubt.
2. If this fight was happening anywhere but a UFC PPV, I don't see any objection to it. Certainly no worse than Herschel Walker in SF, Dave Batista in the regional circut, etc. The problem I have is that we have 2 fighters who've earned their way into the spot who won't get it.
3. Frankly, I thought when the Punk signing was announced that TUF would be his best bet. Young, less experienced fighters, so he wouldn't be overwhelmed, and his name recognition gives a boost to the show. If he comes off well, you can put him on FS1 cards. If he wins he can go to PPV. If he's an embarrassment, it's much easier to forget about his TUF run than a PPV spot. Yes, some people will complain that he'd likely get a marketing bonus or something for being on TUF to ensure it was a financially viable offer for him, but so what.)

I don't think you can question Punk's will....but in the UFC? It's ridiculous. It is a complete win-win though, which sucks.

I completely agree with the sentiment of him being on TUF for the same reason that Kimbo was on TUF.
That's kind of what my issue with Punk is, is that there is precedent when it comes to side shows and he's getting the most watered down, baby gloves, rigged version compared to others who have come before.
The problem is that we now have 3 non UFC quality fighters in the UFC instead of just the Punk.
These guys who are getting this opportunity are getting based on LACK of experience, where as other fighters who have a few fights under their belt are getting passed over for having too much experience. That just seems wrong.
Do you know who else besides CM Punk and Michael Jackson have 0-0 records? Me. You. Most people on this board. Which means that most people on this forum actually now qualify as UFC fighters. True story.

Both had previous sports experience though. Lesnar had his college wrestling background & had fought in MMA. Toney is one of the best ever HW boxers. Commissions consider stuff like that when giving licences. As far as I'm aware, they don't hold professional wrestling careers with the same regard.

The problem I have with this is that other people had to fight real fighters.
Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir(1st UFC fight, 2nd ever fight)
James Toney vs Randy Couture
Kimbo Slice vs Roy Nelson on TUF.
The UFC is where you go to fight the top fighters in the world.
What's worse about this "trial fight" is that it gives CM Punk an advantage to then have fight footage on his opponent, something neither of his opponents will have on him. That's pretty much the definition of rigging the game.

Lesnar had a very high wrestling pedigree, Toney a high boxing pedigree and the UFC wanted to shut him up, Slice already had a few MMA fights when he was matched via the coaches on TUF. CM is a unique situation. I have no problem with the UFC doing the occasional wacky experiment like this.

Two low experience fights designed to bring in more eye balls and money to the UFC. I'm not opposed to the UFC trying something different occasionally.

My problem is that they need to sign people to fight him, people who are nowhere near deserving or able to fight at a high level. So if one of these guys ends up beating Punk, they'll probably have to bring in yet another low ability fighter. The UFC is supposed to be the premier MMA organisation in the world, they shouldn't be putting on fights that wouldn't make Bellator prelims.

Wow, talk about bottom of the barrel. This whole CM Punk thing is a mess and the rest of the roster should be pissed. I see guys getting upset Paige, or Sage for how they are promoted but at least they are Mixed Martial Artists and not just actors like Punk.

Nah I wouldn't worry about that. The guy who beats CM Punk gets the wolves.

Punk isn't coming into the sport talking crazy nonsense like Lesner or any other pro wrestler who tried MMA in the past. He's not using his celebrity status to get big fights. Or to build his resume off of extremely old vets from 2 past eras ago. He fully understands that him being in the UFC is all business. More people watching him to lose means more $$. And UFC is not above bringing in bottom of the barrel level fighters. So Punk can be a great chance to highlight what training MMA can bring to an individual, along with what a fighter just starting out looks like.
Any smart fighter that's already established shouldn't be looking to fight him making themselves look foolish in the process but should welcome him fighting on the same card as them cause of the bigger exposure they'll get.

Totally, I am good with it too. I mean, if makes it interesting I'm all for it as long as it doesn't headline a card I think other fighters should be cool with it too.
