I'm waiting till next week, after actual people (not causehead critics) have seen it and weighed in.
It's Nolan though... so I'm leaning yes, unless a bunch of people tell me not to bother.

Yep, it surrounds the mission to steal the Death Star plans. I was so excited when I first heard the movie was being made because they were using a plot from one of the best Star Wars games ever, Dark Forces. This is where I'd like to see some of the movies going because the video games have had some of the best Star Wars content since A New Hope graced the movie screens. Dark Forces and Rebellion are amazing games that don't get nearly enough shine. Rebellion is one of my favorite games of all time and I know barely anyone who has played it.
I've never understood the visceral hate for Jar Jar. He's a shitty, annoying character, this is true. But the original series had shitty, annoying characters, too. I've always hated C-3PO and I tune him out the same way I tune out Jar Jar. (There's a silly fan theory that Jar Jar is actually a secret Sith lord playing the fool to secretly sabotage things. While it's obvious not true, it is way more palatable watching Jar Jar if you pretend it is).
The worst part of the prequels is Hayden Christensen. His acting is so bad that I don't understand how they picked him. This conversation actually reminded me of a good thread idea I had, however. But, again, the original trilogy was also full of terrible actors. Mark Hamill is nostalgic, and the perfect person to play Luke, but he was also a terrible actor then.
I do need to check out the shows at some point. I have yet to see a single one.
The beginning is very slow but I did enjoy the later episodes.
I didn't like Jar Jar at all. But I'm also probably the only person on Earth that thinks the kid did really well in the Phantom Menace.

I've never heard of either. The first Star Wars game I played was Force Unleashed. Played the sequel to it, and then Fallen Order and Survivor. Those are the only Star Wars games I've played.
Bro! You HAVE to play Knights Of The Old Republic I and II.
The kid was way better than Hayden. I thought he did ok for his age. There's not much emotional depth possible for a kid that age when you have so few life experiences.
But, no one likes Jar Jar. Some people can tolerate him, but no one except George Lucas likes him.
This. So much this. KOTOR is one of the best games ever made. It is simply phenomenal and anyone who plays video games should not miss it. It still holds up today.
Rebellion still holds up to me, but I have nostalgia as well. I spent so many hours with this game back in 90's and early '00s. If you're curious:
Dark Forces came out a couple years after Doom and was lost in a sea Doom clones. But this game was far more than just a clone. It's one of the best FPS games ever to me, and the writing and sound are phenomenal. It was the first FPS I ever played where you could look freely.
The best thing ever was to choose your path. Jedi or dark side.
I played those 2 so many times. But going full dark side was the best fun for me. I really like that your powers are so different for each paths.
Damn, I need to play them again.

I didn't get around to starting Episode II last night, so I can't comment on Hayden's acting yet. The fact that he didn't really play in anything else is probably not a good sign....
The writing in that game is so good, that I feel bad making some of the Dark Side choices. I think that game may have the best writing of any RPG I have played off the top of my head. The first time you play, the plot twist hits hard. I don't know if I have ever been more surprised in a video game plot.
He was so bad, and caught so much shit, that he basically retired from acting.

He did not do a good job, but the amount of hate/criticism he got was ridiculous.
Kid was 9 and Lucas handed him a bizarre, clunky script that didn't give him any opportunities to foreshadow that he would be capable of turning into Darth Vader.
At 9, with a movie with that budget and that many people working on it, you're just following orders and doing as many takes as the director wants before he is satisfied with the final result. It's entirely on George Lucas.
He ended up getting diagnosed as full blown skitzo... so it's not like he really had a chance of establishing himself as a reliable working professional.
(I'm not saying George Lucas should have known this when he cast him at age 7-8... that type of shit usually doesn't present itself that early in life)
Yes he was. But at least when he came back for Obi-wan, his acting was much better.
I just hope he found peace because he had a very rough road to follow after II and III.

Apparently those games are available on everything except Playstation.... Wtf. Shows a remake was announced for PS5 back in 2021, but has been in developmental hell since.

Get a Switch. They're pretty cheap these days and it plays great on there. Otherwise, any PC that isn't made of coconuts can run KOTOR.
Jake Lloyd was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Hayden Christensen had so much pressure on him that he disappeared for quite a while.
