NFL / College Football News and Live Watching

All the talking head shows on ESPN and Fox Sports wouldn't STFU about it, so I think they felt their hand was forced. I agree; pretty much a mountain out of a mole hill.

But the coach thing was pretty crazy too; that wasn't just any coach, that was Philly head coach Nick Sirianni. Talk about someone who should be held to a higher standard. I think I heard one person on ESPN or Fox make a vague reference to Sirianni yelling at a player, otherwise they gave it almost no air time that I noticed.

You're right, it was Bears/Eagles and it was Sirianni... we all got a kick out of it, but I could see where parents with little kids or parents that have kids who play football would have been like "come on, that's completely uncalled for"

Nothing from the NFL or Eagles... which again, I'm fine with but it's weird they would suspend an official for far less a week later.

I still think that Hill (official in the Miami game) got screwed. It looked cartoonish in real time, but I thought that was a completely normal reaction to that situation... and to his credit he didn't throw a flag or seem to let it impact the way he called the rest of the game. I'd wager that if the NFL hadn't made the decision to suspend the other official, he wouldn't have had any action taken against him.

At least it isn't as weird as fining players for TD celebrations

NFL definitely went too far with that.

I understand where you can't have players using 'props' (especially the goal posts... Jimmy Graham bending a goal post during a game was WTF), but if a player wants to do a dance or pretend their are chugging a beer or shooting a machine gun or something, who cares? They are all giving each other CTE and sending each other to early graves, but we're going to draw the line at certain types of dances?

Sometimes I think they do some of this stuff just to get people talking and tuning in to see what retarded line they will cross next.

The NFL has rescinded the $14,926 fine it imposed on 49ers FB Kyle “Juice” Juszczyk for what it thought was a distasteful celebration of chugging a beer. The league said it was withdrawing the fine “because his celebration was simulating drinking a juice box, not a beer….Mr. Juszczyk finally stated that the fine is hypocritical with the amount of Bud Light sponsorships surrounding the NFL.” Fine rescinded.

The new fine imposers seem to be new to football.

Welcome, kiddies

The reason they went draconian on TD celebration was to make it a talking point in the next CBA discussion, so the NFLPA would waste negotiating energy on that rather than something more expensive for owners' pockets.

NFL, union clarify celebration rules, OK drinking gestures

"The league-wide guidance provides players with greater clarity on how they can celebrate while remaining within the rules," the statement said.

As part of that clarification, the following celebrations remain prohibited and can result in a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty, a fine or both:

• Gestures that depict violence, including the use of guns or other weapons or gang-related signs

• Gestures that depict smoking or drug use

• Gestures that are sexual in nature

Also included in the resolved guidelines is a note that when conduct falls into a "gray area," the league will contact the player before imposing any discipline that may require an appeal.

According NFLPA executive director JC Tretter, there were 20 celebration fines in Weeks 2 and 3, which he called "an unusual spike." Tretter wrote on X that all of those fined players appealed, with some already overturned.

It appears that the Redskins goal is to shut down the run and make Jameis beat them...and its working. We do not look great.

That end of game was unreal. Fire everyone.

Agreed, that was as bad of a final 45 seconds to end a game as I've ever seen in football.

For the skins...yes.

Skattebo's fumble (which happened prior to the last 45 seconds) was pretty unforgiveable on the Giants side of the ledger... but, not to the level of "fire everyone, burn the stadium to the ground and salt the Earth" like it was on the 'Commanders' (they don't deserve to be called the Redskins anymore) side.
