You know what this proves? That boxing for us combat sports fans, is still #1, now current boxing... ima give my support to MMA, but overall, Boxing probably had more of an impact on all of us than MMA ever could. Now we love the sport, but to be able to have a thread of people speak about Boxers who they loved, eras they loved, fights/stoppages they loved, etc... And to compare it to the greatest era mma ever had (07-13) is amazing.
Hearns and Hag did brawl until the bell though, such a shame it was only 3 round but it was 3 rounds of fun and violence.

I like the variety of attacks in MMA more than boxing. MMA is definitely #1 for me. Over the course of say 100 fights, you are going to see way more boring boxing matches as compared to MMA fights. A lot more BS matchups too. BUT, when you do get a Haggler vs Hearns type boxing match, I don't know if there is a better event to watch, even in MMA.

The biggest Boxing matches obviously are bigger than the biggest mma matches.
I know 95% of combat sports fans, would rather watch Crawford fight than Omalley.
If the Tyson and Paul fight SOMEHOW are during the same time as a UFC event, that'll kill their ratings surely, since Tyson is such a larger than life boxing figure.
I'm glad MMA is #1 for you though, anyone else I've ever spoken to, has told me Boxing in their heart will have to win that out, even if it is slightly. If I was to list 150 mma fights that range from good to greatest, and do the same with Boxing... I'd have to give Boxing more than likely a significant edge.
The Ali's Canelo's, Sugar Ray's, Roy Jones, Tyson's, Holyfields, Lewis, Pacquiao's, WIlder's, Fury, etc... Wars that Boxing will have... I think supercedes that of MMA
I still firmly believe (to me) the greatest MMA fight I ever watch was Goat Jones and Gus 1, 2nd place is Lawler and Rory 2, then it continues from there, but to watch THAT LEVEL of fight.. I haven't felt OMG since, honestly.

In terms of PPV buys, the UFC has more of the top spots. Remove Mayweather bouts and the UFC has the top 10-20.
That is not to say that MMA is better than boxing, but the UFC has far more One million+ PPVs that boxing.

Is it fair to caveat out one sports largest draw and not do the same for the other?

Even with Mayweather, the UFC dominated the top 20. Mayweather/Paq and Mayweather/Conor are almost 2 million buys over other cards. Mayweather is, without question, the top PPV draw. Removing Mayweather and Conor takes out most of the top selling cards. But those remaining and more UFC than boxing.
That said, I think the bigger boxing bouts still bring in more $ in terms of tickets and sponsors. The UFC is absolutely closing the gap, but top boxing is still king of the coin. UFC 303 had the fourth biggest gate in UFC history. Endeavor has made great strides in supplemental income like site fees.

No one I know under 45 watches boxing unless it's Jake Paul or Canelo or Tank. The difference between the amount of people that knew about MMA 20 yrs ago vs now is crazy. In my humble opinion it seems that MMA is slowly taking over. Well really it's just UFC. I'm pretty sure 90 percent of people don't know the name of any other promotion.

No sir, but if you remove mayweather, you'd have to remove Conor... Then those buys drastically drop also....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay-per-view
Just move down to boxing and then go to MMA, yeah.. Boxing has far more. UFC has 20 even with 1 million or more ppv's sold at a single event. Boxing..... has far more.
Also check this out (I don't know how to paste pictures here... ugh)

Ali is by far and away first place.

Ya, I like a good boxing match and all, but it's MMA for me by a very wide margin.

UFC has definitely gotten huge, but even you see it, Conor was the peak they've ever had, that's why so many people get made fun of for trying to be him.
The top selling PPV artists of all time in the ufc are
1. Conor
2. GSP
3. Goat Jones
4. Anderson Silva
That's combined ppv buys.
2 are retired, one is about to retire the other (conor) is gonna do what he can to hold on to his legacy.
NOBODY is close to any of them in ppv buys.
UFC is huge, but it isn't gonna take over Boxing anytime soon. Yeah most don't watch boxing now because it isn't what it used to be, but it's still far and away the bigger sport. It's why Canelo can show up and people lose their s---.

If the Fury/Usyk rematch is on at the same time they put on Turcios/Kelleher as the main event at the Apex, I'm personally watching the UFC card live and probably just watching the highlights of the boxing match.

Boxing has a legacy fan base (and pimp fans base lol) that MMA doesn't have. When I used to work at MSG during boxing events, I would run into some crazy characters. I talked to Burt Sugar one time for about 20 minutes while we were waiting online for our credentials. He was super nice and just firing off old school boxing stories blowing cigar smoke in my face the whole time lol. And then there is the whole pimp element on fight night... I used to think that was just a stereotype but there are guys with their purple jackets and giant chains and canes rolling in with these women with their t--- and asses hanging out lolol. You don't see that at MMA events but you would see them every boxing event.
There's just a whole other element to boxing...

It's a respected thing, Boxing had fans allowed to do whatever, riots, fights, yells, throwing s--- (except in the ring, there's only been a few times that happened), Boxing gained respect from fans, for not only putting on the best shows, but allowing people to be themselves for the time they have.
Most people don't talk about the Holyfield-Tyson 2 fight, they talk about the Brawl after the fight, with fans, Tyson and holyfield fighting and EVERYONE trying to get Tyson out of there. As infamous as it was, it was a spectacle.
There's so much history with Boxing that it won't be overtaken by MMA.

I don't care about other people's finances... I just thought it was a bit weird to say "aside from this top guy the other sport does...." It's either one way or the other without caveats is all

I can understand that. A lot of people started out on boxing I would assume. I'm the total opposite. I started out on old school MMA, and it is actually the reason that I kinda watch boxing.
