That is not pedophilia. Pedophilia is far, far worse.
If you mean there is a difference in gross between people not caring or realizing they are having sex with a high schooler and with actively seeking out little children, then yes, agreed.

I've never put any stock into the actual truth of the Epstein files. the cover up machine is too big, too powerful, and has unheralded financial backing. Sacrificial lambs are all I believe will ever be revealed for the next 50 years.

The machine is too good at conspiratorial folklore to fail until 3 generations have passed.

Counterpoint, has there been any real surprising new information released about presidents from the early 1900s that wasn't already public knowledge? Aside from Woodrow Wilson's wife being even more of a racist nut than originally believed? Or aside from JFK sticking his dick into anything that moves?

If there was evidence of real pedoing going on with prior presidents, Russia and China would have used their spies to blast that all over the internet right now.

Accurate.

I wonder what is it about British people in power that children find so sexy?

I believe the exact opposite. In modern times, there are no secrets. People, governments, businesses are really really bad at keeping secrets. Were there a real story to be told here, it would be out, guaranteed.

either way it isn't worth my time. if there's a bombshell or smoking gun it'll hit the airwaves real fast and won't be titled Darkest Epstein Files Revealed, it will be specific and call out the perp and show the evidence

To my knowledge there is very little if any accusations of pedophilia even if you believe everything released and/or hidden.

Dozens of the victims who came forward were underage when the abuse occurred. I guess the textbook definition of pedo is prepubescent, which most were not. Retracted. Still pretty sick taking advantage of children who happened to have boob development and hair in their crotch.

Correct.

I've ranted about this before.

Both are unacceptable and should be very illegal, BUT...

Actual pedophilia (attraction/sexual desire to prepubescent children) is WAY worse than what I've referred to before as 'jailbait pedophilia' (attraction/sexual desire to children/teens who have gone thru puberty... but who are still protected, rightfully so, under statutory consent laws solely due to their age).

For some bizarre reason our society has made it impossible to contrast two things against each other if both have been deemed unacceptable... even if one is WAY worse than the other.

You can't say, to one of my wifes heroic friends, "I wouldn't want to hang out with either... but if you forced me to pick? Ok, between two undesirable choices I'll pick hanging out with the creepy old guy who comments on 17 year old chicks appearance over the pedo who thinks 7 year olds are attractive."

That shouldn't be a controversial stance... but thanks to these social justice warriors the only acceptable response is, "I would pick NONE, because all of it is heinous!"

Right, it is all bad... but, one is way worse. Pretending both are equally bad is not helping.

I dunno, I blame 'zero tolerance' policy nonsense, which largely came to the forefront in the 90s/00s, for a lot of this dummy think. When I was in high school my school rolled out this insane 'zero tolerance' policy that had kids getting the same punishment for bringing a multitool pocket knife to school, as kids who brought a firearm.

When you treat everything as an 11 out of 10, it oftentimes allow the truly heinous to fly under the radar and get away from terrible things... because the system is overwhelmed punishing the benign/low level offenders.

I dunno, I've found the opposite to be true.

Yes, with cameras everywhere and digital everything it is easier than ever for secrets to be exposed... but most of the secrets that I see getting exposed are of the 'you got sloppy' variety. Even with those, it's a roll of the dice if the algo's will pick up on it and have it go viral.

Truth is, there is just so much nefarious shit happening on an hourly basis that it's impossible for everyone to know all of it. Even when it's big or important, a lot of the time it gets swallowed up or buried under unimportant nonsense.

For example... we had a married senior exec years back (during #metoo) who one of my coworkers ended up busting for travel and expense fraud during an audit. As we took a closer look into it, it turned out he was actually taking one of his direct reports on the road with him and banging her and charging all the wining, dining and personal gifts he was getting her to his company card. By the way, if you ever get a company card DO NOT use it to treat your mistress to personal gifts, it's really easy to spot during an audit... and this was pre-AI, it's way easier now.

You'd think during #metoo that would have made headlines. It wasn't some 6 figure middle manager or director... he was a senior exec for a multi-billion dollar company that was pulling down mid 7 figures. Nope, not a peep or even a local headline. Sure, his wife divorced him, but I don't know if he made her sign an NDA or what, she didn't say a word to to press. No one on our side said anything. We let him 'resign' to 'focus on his health' and he ended up getting another senior exec level role with a competitor a few months later. The report he was banging ended up getting a promotion and a pay raise out of it (of course they didn't admit it was because of that, they just said it was because she had been doing such a great job in her role prior to the exec 'resigning'), she ended up leaving the company a few months later when a competitor (not the one the exec went to, thought hat would have been hilarious) poached her.

To this day, if you ask 95% of the employees of our company why that exec left, they'd say it was for personal reasons. Pretty much no one knew he was banging a direct report, and it certainly didn't make headlines... even when seemingly every headline was of the "rich old white dude bangs director subordinate making 25% of his salary".

(I would give better examples where nothing was actually done, but I'm on an NDA with my company. All I'll say is that while we've got caught and slammed by many state AG's... we've got away with shit that was worse than the stuff they busted us on, and also, even on stuff where the secret was 'exposed'... was it really exposed if everyone pretty much just went along with their life and no real damage was done?)

Agreed. Hell, 40-50% of murders go unsolved every single year.

You think rich people are going to give up their debauchery because one of the purveyors got pinched? Hell, there are tech bros online who openly talk about avoiding certain people and certain places so they do not get Epsteined. I bet there are at least 5 other extravagant islands in the world that traffic "beautiful" 14-17 year olds to rich people. Just ask Tim Tebow...

Oh yea, in Chicago the murder clearance rate was sub 40% and now it's reported at 71%.

Many people were like, "look at how much better police are now!"

Well no... what actually happened isn't that police got magically better at their job. It is that the way to 'clear' a murder was changed. Now, police are able to 'clear' the case if they 'suspect' that the person involved in the killing is now dead.

So, if you're stuck you just look at recent gang killings and say that one of the known gang members likely killed the person who was murdered that you can't solve. Boom, solved!

(that's not to say that Chicago is more dangerous now than in the 90's... it's actually quite a bit safer in terms of murder. You don't prove that by citing the clearance rate though, you look at the total number of murders. It's much harder to not report a dead body than to report that you 'solved' the death)

Yes, and I'm not in any way trying to suggest that "it's worse now than it was then".

I'm sure that in many ways it's a lot better now. As I had mentioned, we've got cameras everywhere now and there's facial recognition and digital expense trails and yada yada yada.. there's certainly more ways to get caught now than in the past and I'm sure that's put a dent in some of the bad/illegal behavior.

On the other hand... people have been finding creative ways to break the law forever and get away with it, to suggest that all of a sudden people aren't capable of doing shit they have historically always done because they are 'so bad at it'? That's equal parts lazy and naive.
