Why would that be the case?

From what I read Greenland is still under Danish soverignty, and they retain domestic autonomy as well as autonomy over non-military foreign policy. .. they can vote to become an independent county if they want and enact whatever domestic travel policies they feel like.

We just get the authority to build military bases all over their county and we get to pay for their defense.

The only real "win" is in the fact that non-NATO countries can't build military bases there... which is good and all, but a far cry from what Trump was proposing would be the outcome
It's a pretty good strategic point

Maybe that's a side product in a few years. IdK. That would be a benefit if they did that.

Congrats to Putin and kadyrov!

Russia: Putin party retains majority in parliamentary vote

Vladimir Putin's United Russia won just under 58% of the vote, the electoral commission said. Meanwhile, Putin ally Ramzan Kadyrov won nearly 100% of the vote in elections in the Russian republic of Chechnya.

Russia's electoral commission on Monday said that the ruling United Russia party has won the parliamentary election.

It's the first parliamentary poll since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and President Vladimir Putin has cast it as a referendum of support for what is termed in Russia, the "special military operation."

Parties that support Putin and the Kremlin's war in Ukraine are the only ones registered to run, and the opposition was barred from taking part.

The polls took place amid rising prices, a crackdown on political opponents and the internet, fuel shortages and rumors of another mobilization drive following the elections.

The Central Election Commission said that with 95% of ballots counted, the party of Russian President Vladimir Putin won 57.83% of the vote.

Commission chair Ella Pamfilova said that according to the preliminary results, United Russia would get 355 seats in the 450-seat Duma, giving the party around 20 more seats than it currently holds and marking the strongest result in its history.

File that one away in the, "way above my paygrade... doesn't matter how I feel about it or if I think it's a good idea/bad idea... decision will be made by politicians/officials that I probably didn't vote for and I'll just have to adjust with whatever outcome occurs" cabinet.

So only Putin's people are allowed to run and he STILL only got 58% of the vote?

Winning?

I know thats why I asked. I did have a conversation with someone else this morning that actually felt that way and I was blown away by their ignorance to the strategic importance of this deal.
I agree. I absolutely loathe the way Trump initially went about trying to make this deal, but the future strategic value of this can't actually be stated enough. The Arctic will be majorly contested in the future, and this will be vital in securing not only our future interests there, but our national security.

I still hate how he started this mess. He needlessly damaged important alliances, and clearly this could have been accomplished without that reckless and self-defeating approach.

Completely agree but with Trump it is to be expected. He says some of the dumbest shit and goes about everything in the worst possible way but at the end of the day I shake my head up and down and say ok I get it.

I agree for the most part, but I truly still don't understand what we're doing in Iran.
