I greatly admire what he did politically, but I've never been able to get past the fact that he left a dead woman (who died because he drove into the water) in his car and didn't report it to the authorities. That's pretty low.

Bingo. That's not like getting a DUI or getting caught with a hooker or something, that's a pretty big one in someone's past to ignore, no matter what they do afterwards.

Then you aren't thinking, man. Ted Kennedy is a f**king hero. I'm not saying at a career soldier doesn't serve his country, he clearly does, but h does so by protecting it. Ted Kennedy, the god-damned lion of the senate, has spend nearly his entire life turning the country into something worth protecting. Saying Kennedy didn't "serve his country" is like saying no president ever has either, since I think it's pretty much inarguable that Kennedy's legal and political legacy rivals or surpasses that of any president, it's just not so dramatic.

Come now. I'm not one to pile on a guy on the day of his death, but you are certainly aware that many people found him to be a very objectionable human being, both personally and professionally. You are entitled to your high opinion of the man, but you state a lot of things as fact (inarguable, no less) that are far from it.

Don't really think I am. I didn't say he was a lovely man made of rainbows and icecream. I'm sure that there are tonnes of people who disliked him, and fought against him, but neither of those things is relevant when we talk about how much he's done for America, which is likely more than anyone, ever. Maybe not lincoln, but it would be close.

I don't think most people understand how tragic this is for the american political system. It just lost arguably it's single most important player of all time.
