I'm serious! Maia gets FOTN bonus and fights his f---ing heart out, but what I saw was him gassing badly after 1 round of controlling on top. At this level it's just unacceptable. I don't know if he was injured or if he had a bad camp, but the end of the first round I was like WTF! why is he so bleeding tired after 5 minutes of work? His shoots without any setups at the start of the second round was embarrassing and I like Maia but at almost 35 year old his cardio is shot IMO and it's time to move on cuz he's not gonna be able to do anything else with these WW cats.

I'm guessing that it was an adrenaline dump - Rory made it impossible for Maia to submit him.
And no, I don't think it's time for him to retire, he's on his second loss in a row against two top 10 competitors in his weight division. Maia is an intelligent guy, I'm sure he'll know when it's time to call it a day and not carry on like some vets do when it's past their time.

To win! He didn't but telling the poor guy to retire is a bit severe. He can still make coin of he want too

He got cracked by some heavy body shots right at the start of round 2 and never really recovered for a long time. That's going to take the gas right out of you.
He shouldn't retire. He should definitely consider picking his hands up when in his stance though.

Dont f---ing tell me to relax!!!
Bro, this is the same guy that used to go 20 minutes straight at Abu Dhabi or the bjj worlds doing basically the same work on the mat, yet 5 minutes of mat time and hes absolutely f---ed. How would he fair against someone like Jake Ellenberger? Flatlined In seconds I imagine after gassing out in minutes trying to get a takedown.
IM NOT PISSED BY THE WAY CUZ HE LOST ME HUNDREDS OF POUNDS IN ACCUMALATOR BETS EITHER.

the ufc can use him as a gatekeeper for a couple of more years then he can go make more instructional bjj videos.

Maia gassed but if he held that take down in the third round he probably would have won the decision. Maia could have been out of shape, but he could've had a bad weight cut, he could've cracked a rib or the body shot might have sucked the life out of him, he could have been sick or had a bad weight cut. Maia didn't make excuses and it was a winnable fight for him. He is still improving his striking and he was able to take Rory down twice, which a lot of people didn't think he had good enough wrestling to do.

Maia gets paid pretty well. He's still a great fighter. I see no reason why he should retire now.
Will he ever fight for the title again? Probably not, but you can say that of about 75% of the roster.

I was a little surprised about him gassing as bad as he did, but it's not uncommon for him. See the Munoz and Weidman fights.

There's absolutely no reason for him to retire, just because someone isn't getting a title shot soon Don't mean he should automatically retire.

It is a shame he doesn't have the endurance to match his opponents because his skill level is solid as heck. Rory was his biotch just like Fitch and Story were until Maia ran out of fuel.

Of course he shouldn't retire, however he probably won't ever get another title shot either. He makes a good comeback fight for GSP should Georges ever come back to the UFC.
