Maia did everything in his power to win rd 1 the way he did. Most would gas atleast some from that and then in the second he took huge body shots. Cardio issues or not, he'd never be able to match his performance from the 1st into the second and third round. Rory is also too good to get beat that badly over the course of three rounds. Retirement talk is foolish though.

I to had that reaction and thought it was super awesome as well.
I thought Shields Maia was a great fight. one fight removed from that seems a little hasty. pretty sure he's at the point in his career where peds can give him a second life for his career.... i mean hey... if you're allowed to use them... then why retire....
You guys think he gassed gassed? It looked to me like he was severely affected by the body shots in the early second round and never fully recovered. He's not a cardio phenom like Condit, GSP, or Diaz, but he's never gassed from a full round of dominant top control before. Props to Rory, but as other's have said Demian could have won it in the third if he stayed on top longer.
Possibly. Someone who should is TJ Waldburger. I'm not a fan of saying someone should retire, but TJ has been KO'd a lot & he's still young. His chin isn't going to get any better, and it doesn't seem like his striking defense is either.

I'm afraid so. I had a bunch of accumulators on and if Maia won I would've won £570 on one and £373 on the other. I won £163 but as you can see with this stupid thread I was pissed for losing out so lashed out at Maia
