This fight would be a great FS1 headliner. Big co-main for a fight pass event! I like it.

Yeah, I feel like this should be a 5 rounder. The winner could be looking at a title shot.

Damn. Mir should be fighting Rothwell, Cain should be fighting Stipe, & Arlovski should be fighting Werdum. Now is also the perfect time to do Hunt/Bigfoot II.

I am honestly becoming less of a fan of 5 round non title fights cause it seems we've seen a lot of 5 round non title wars that in the long run did nothing for guys careers but probably shorten them. Look at JDS/Stipe. Those guys battered each others brains for 5 rounds and should have been rewarded with a title shot only to get the shaft by the UFC. A guy like Hunt being in a 5 round fight with guys like Stipe and Big Foot when he doesn't really NEED to be is just damaging for his body.

Nice. I know a lot of people are hyped on Miocic for a title shot, but I don't think he's earned it yet. But a win over a surging Rothwell could be what he needs to show he's deserving.
This does put the heavyweight division in an odd spot, as well. With JDS v Overeem being targeted, if JDS wins, he holds a recent win over Miocic, so who gets the title shot then? If Overeem wins, he holds a win over Werdum, if those two win, it would be a marketable fight, where does that leave Miocic/Rothwell winner? So many various possibilities. Only easy one to pick would be if Rothwell beats Miocic, he's got a good win streak going. That's probably what the UFC should be hoping for.

Though I am happy Ben is getting this opportunity. Should be a great fight.
Got to go with Stipe out of the gate
When was the last time the Heavyweight division was this interesting:
Dos Santos vs Overeem
Mir vs Arlovski
Miocic vs Rothwell
Possibility of signing Fedor

I like it, but only because I think Miocic steamrolls Rothwell.
WAR MIOCIC!!!!

First of all Arlovski should be in a title fight. They are wasting off a viable (and headline worthy) contender in Arlovski/Mir given that this could be both men's final run at the title. Second of all Cain has no business in an instant rematch when he got finished clean the first time out. Like why, that is tied for the dumbest fight and stupidest matching this year along with Cormier/Gustafsson.

s---, I forgot about Arlovski v Mir. That's yet another contender-producing match. And with that fight happening at least four months before the title fight does, the winner could even end up in yet another fight....
The Werdum/Velasquez rematch will be marketable, that's why they're doing it. Which isn't a great reason, but it's at least understandable. It's coming at a terrible time though, when there are so many other contenders emerging. Heavyweight hasn't looked this deep in a decade....

My thought exactly when I saw this was targeted for this card. This is deserving to be main event over Poirier vs. Duffy. Don't get me wrong, Poirier vs. Duffy is a bad @ss fight, but Miocic vs. Rothwell has much higher stakes and implications at play.

Gonna have to buy Fight Pass for this event after all.

From the decision making minds that gave Cain a rematch, Gus a title shot, fired Stitch, and Condit an underserved title shot

You guys weren't kidding about Cain getting the next title shot? I totally thought it was officially going to Stipe.
Sucks for Stipe, big fight for Big Ben though.

If Stipe fights smart by using his superior speed and footwork, I see him cruising to a UD or possibly late KO. Stipe's chin was tested by JDS and passed..
People saying that Stipe is not deserving of a title shot seem to forget how tough a fight he gave JDS. Santos out-struck Stipe by
only
1 headshot in a 5 round fight. Rounds 1 & 2 were extremely close, and if it was a 3 round fight an argument could be made for Stipe winning.
Miocic has also only been professionally fighting for 5 years which is relatively green for the men. He is still rounding out his game and has the boxing, speed and TDD to give Werdum a fight imo.
