Disagree only in that Roland isn't meant to be psychotically evil. He isn't a bad guy, just obsessed and single minded. These are not the eyes we are looking for.

I'm not arguing for the character Bardem played I'm stating that Roland's eyes are described as faded and unsettling locked in the proverbial thousand yard stare. A trained Killers eyes.
The younger Roland (wizard and glass) had bluer eyes. While older Roland has faded light blue eyes.
He also is described as having light blue eyes, and these are mentioned frequently. I think we need someone a bit more Aryan.

My bad. It's just hard to talk about his overall character concerning casting. Without stepping into some of those areas. You're on one of the best books of the series right now in my opinion. Also if you enjoyed the gunslinger you should read

Man you guys ever think how different all of the movies over the last 40 years would have looked had we not lost certain actors.

So I'm half deep into Episode II. Hayden is not an Oscar winner, but his performance is not unwatchable at all (like the two performances in E1 were).
