This is a thread for those who have
read
all "The Walking Dead" books and would like to discuss them.
If you plan to read them, are in the wrong thread!

What are your top most-disturbing moments in the books?
I have a feeling the TV series will never get that dark and depressing.
I'll list mine later this evening...

Three off the top of my head:
* When Tyreese had his head slowwwly hacked off by the Governor, who lacked the strength to use Michonne's samurai sword properly.
* When after Lori carries a healthy baby to full term (Judith), they are both shot to hell.
* After Lori dies, Rick finally hooks up with someone else (Jessie), only to have to cut her hand off when zombies swarm in, so they can eat her only (allowing his son Carl to get away).

#15 is out in December. It will make a great stocking stuffer.

The most disturbing moment for me so far was when they basically killed off everyone at the prison, including Lori and the baby, and took Rick's hand. That was a complete and total WTF moment for me. I thought there was no way they could kill off some of the more prominent characters like they did.
It makes me wonder if the TV series would have the balls to do some of the stuff they've done in the comics. I don't ever remember any TV series doing anything like what TWD did.

Just read # 14. Pretty brutal! Rick shags that lady then abandons her so he and Carl can get away... yikes.
And wtf? Carl has half his head blown off? Holy s---!

Yeah, and I think that really highlights the comic's superiority to the show. In the comic,
anyone
can die, and they frequently do, so every conflict carries some tension and dread. The TV show hasn't yet killed off anyone of any real significance, including people who should be dead aleady. (I'm looking at you SHANE!!!), so there's still a feeling of safety during those scenes, as the viewer is reasonably confident that the main characters will be ok.

I think that highlighrs my point perfectly Copper. Of those, only 1 was a developed character to any degree. Someone major needs to go, and not Darryl or the black guy, who's so non descript right now I can't even remember his name.

It looks like they'll probably be killing Shane for the season finale, or maybe cliffhanger it for season 3.
I keep up with the individual issues, so I can already tell you what happens to Carl. But I'll save it until someone else talks about it.

I live in Holland, big comic book fan, and would love to read this. Does anyone have any tips on how to get a hold of 'em, online or real issues?

I just found 86-90 online and read up. Guess I should keep my mouth shut too. Damn. So no discussion beyond issue 85 until the next collection comes out in december?

That would seem fair since I believe most readers get the collected TPBs.

I just read 91, and the last panel shows that things are about to get exciting again. In the letters section, Kirkman says that starting with 93, some big things are happening. Looks pretty awesome.

Same here. Looks like the s--- is going down.
One thing I'm wondering, is how does the TV Show presume to do the Governor/Michonnne scene? I mean, that about as brutal as it gets. Of course, Lori/Judy in the prison almost made me cry reading the comic, and also might be "too hot for TV", nevermind the twins... :?
I'm hoping the TV can haave the integrity to be true to brutality of the comic. I find the TV show is still playing for gross outs too much rather than using the more ghoulish moments to further characterize how fierce the new world has become.
