I found two entries that were good contenders, but one parodying a series instead of a movie & the other parodied movies instead of a specific film. So I passed on both of these just to stay safe.

LOL what?? One of the entries was an original song, so therefore not a parody of a song. And the other one wasn't a movie yet so therefore, also not a parody.

If you submitted a pick that fit both criteria, you are golden. Maybe.

No, CMs explanation seems exactly correct to me. It has to parody a real song and also parody a real movie. How is this complicated??

“All right guys, we are in the quarter-finals, which consists of 3 rounds. For this round, you will submit a song that is a parody of movies and another song. Something like Weird Al's "The Saga Begins", which is a parody of both the "American Pie" song and "Star Wars" is a perfect example: “

“Weird Al will be excluded from this round btw, cause he is so good at doing parodies. Other than that, your song can come from any other source. No write-ups, just list the movie and music elements that your song parodies. Judges will score on how funny and creative the song is to them. Due Friday July 3.”

i'd say no, it doesn't have to explain the movie, just have elements of movies.
