Man, the amount of work and research I put into my pick and it gets one point? Docked for not providing a scene from the movie which lets face it, whilst every other scene entered was the exact same. We're not judging scenes this round, we're judging clips and write ups. Thank you judges, I have been needing to get off the internet lately and you've killed any motivation I have for this comp. And that - Best doesn't have any caveats to it. Picking a war movie that historians rate as one of the best ever (that's movies by the way, not simply war related) and has an imdb rating of 8.2 should never been scoring 1 and 3.5. Ever.

You asked me to judge a movie that I have never seen, in another language, and you provided 0 clips from the movie. The category was best war movie and you didn't give me anything to judge. Am I just supposed just judge a write up? The write up is the supplement to the clip. Not the other way around. I'm comparing 3 other movie clips to a director's interview??

Here's an analogy... there's an old jazz/soft rock singer from South Africa named Jonathan Butler. The guy was HUGE in the 80's in South Africa. He was basically the Lionel Richie of SA. I am sure there are many South Africans that would pick some of his songs as the best song ever. You just submitted Jonathan Butler for the best song ever but didn't provide any songs. You gave us an interview with the guy who produced the song.

Props for explaining your score, so I'll be gentle. Look, if your scope of judging limited to English speaking movies that you've seen before then I'd consider your judging role in these game in future. The wording to these challenges are critical & a lot of the times we see us contestants screw this up. But every now & then it's fair to say it can happen to the judges. This was a rare round where the challenge wasn't having a write up to supplement a scene as you put, but a clip & a write up to supplement a nomination. Hence the director clip. Personally if I were judging I would have started with a list of Best War movies & gone from there, but that's my weird way of thinking. So yeah it's a fail on my part to choose a top rated, historically accurate & critically acclaimed war movie to be only one point higher than, oh I don't know, Barbie? The Hangover? You get the idea. Thanks for taking the time this entire season to judge, all of you.

I would have no problem scoring a foreign movie highly... you know, if there was actually a clip from the movie submitted for me to see. You are literally asking me to just take your word and the guy who made the movie's word for it. Of course the director is going to think his movie is fantastic and deep and emotional. How about you provide a clip so the judge can actually see that it doesn't look like a SNL skit.

Again, to go with another analogy... you gave me an interview with Ozan Yildirim talking about how awesome his production on Drake's song is, while the other contests gave me the song Thriller, Hey Jude, and Born to Run to listen to.

I honestly don't know how the other judges gave that any points without actually seeing a single second of the movie.

Well, that explains why you are not a judge. I don't judge based off a google list. I judge based off of what the contestant submits.

Nah, you did that to yourself. Picking a director interview clip was an enormous mistake. I very purposely worded my write up and chose a clip that would make sense to someone who had never seen the movie before. Did you expect the judges to watch a 2.5 hour movie to judge this round? How could you possibly expect a clip of the director talking could bring anyone the experience of actually watching the movie?

No, you earned that score all yourself, and none of the judges are to blame for your poor choice. And, as CM pointed out, it's IMDB rating has fuck all to do with how Idol judges will score something. You've been at this game long enough that that should have been obvious.

FMJ is an ok Vietnam movie, but I personally don't think it would have been a good choice for this category. I also seem to hold the unpopular opinion that FMJ is overrated. It's good, just not one of the greats in my opinion. Apocalypse Now is the definitive Vietnam movie to me.

This is a good warning to not play when you're judging. Making your scores based on critics lists of movies is an extremely poor choice of criteria to use. Thanks for the heads up.

Well looks like this game will include a re-tread round. I'll hop back in. Last time @Eranys got smoked by @Archimedes, worked himself back in, and almost won it. Or to make it fair those who want to come back in and eat some of these clowns lunches can face off for the spot.

Blimey, that's a lot of quoting / digs. Alright, getting into this isn't going to be fun / healthy for any of us. Can we agree on that at least? Scores are done and my personal gripe with Best challenges continues. Let's see what the net challenge is, if it's another Best with no set criteria then a heads up, I will mail it in mostly out of respect to DWD and partially out of concern for Eranys mental health.
 
Round 8 (Semi-final Part II)

Good day, gentlemen. This is the last round of the semi-finals and the two contestants who win their matches will be heading to the finals. Let's get it on!!!

1.Tito's Category: Submit what you think is the best example of an MMA bout where one fighter belongs, and one fighter has absolutely no business being in the cage. The clip should speak for itself; no write-ups are to be included. Can be amateur or professional bout.


2. Holeydel's Category: Creative Lookalike

Assemble a team of 9 creative lookalikes for the judges, 3 lookalikes to represent each M: Movies/Television, Music and MMA. The lookalike will not be based on the person you're pairing them with (i.e the entire cast of Shark Tail) and any resemblance will be purely coincidence. To be creative, your lookalike cannot be a regular human (i.e Will Farrell and Chad Smith) but can be a human in some form of character (a Storm Trooper, Freddie Kruger etc). The lookalike can be anything else: Animals, mythical monsters or any inanimate object for that matter.

You are to make your submission as a group of 9 on a first come first served basis, so this is a game of speed and confidence. DWD will tell you which lookalike has already been taken in which case you will have to re-submit your 9 entries. Note that in this delay other entries of your original submission can get stolen. It is only the pairing that cannot match another contestants, but by all means duplicate M's can appear in this challenge.

Judges, you'll score each picture out of 10 on creativeness, enjoyment and most things positive. This is a round where scrutiny can take a night off. So and So doesn't always look like a cactus, but they might in this round. Have fun! Once the scoring is tallied up for all 9 pictures, the sum will be divided by 9 to give a final score for the round.
